Summer Camp
I received an email from Lynette this morning- she’s hoping to get some recommendations for summer camps here in Austin. It’s a tough decision and an even tougher one when you have more than one child. Trying to figure out the perfect camp that fits your child’s personality can be a daunting challenge. The choices seem endless and the quest is time consuming. Can you help her out? Share some of your camp experiences- what your kids liked and disliked about going to a particular camp. Would you send your child to an overnight camp for a couple of weeks at a time or just enroll them in day camps and have them at home at night? Here’s what Lynette has to say:
Help!! I opened the Austin Family magazine last night to look at the summer camp section and I became so overwhelmed by all of the choices there. This is the first time I have to send my kids to camp and I don’t know where to begin. I have two boys, six and eight years old. They both have extremely different likes. One is into sports and the other is not at all! I’d like for them to be together, but don’t want one to be happy and the other miserable because of the choice to put them in the same camp. I just think two different ones would be too much of a strain, especially since I’m single. What I’m wondering is if your readers can help me with picking a good camp that does a variety of activities to keep both boys happy. I’m not opposed to sending them to an overnight camp (gives me some good time to MYSELF) but not sure how comfortable they will be with that! What should I look for in a camp? Are there any really good ones that you can recommend? I appreciate any help!! This is too stressful.

I am still awaiting the arrival of our first…May 3rd… getting closer! But, I noticed that LiveMom has an ad for Kidventure – My husband and I designed their brochure this year – and after talking to the owner/founder I was sold on it! Again, I have no real experience with the camp, but, if you go to their website you can download the brochure and get an idea of the themes for day camps and a little bit about their overnight camps:

It sounded really fun to me!

So I was just looking at sending my daughter to Austin Children’s Theater. They are a non-profit company that have a summer line up of theater and screen acting camps. As a single working mom I work really hard to expose my daughter the the arts. They are having an Open House on April 19 at the summer camp location, Sri Atmananda School off Red River and after talking to the executive director about the programs this summer I think it’s going to be amazing. She also said that at the open house she is doing a raffle for a few free enrollments. Here’s their website http://austinchildrenstheater.org/
