Recognizing Papa

dsc_0034.JPGMother’s Day came and went. It was all about us then, but now it’s his turn- your baby’s daddy. Or your papa.

Dads often find themselves having to be more than what was expected in the old days. As our roles as women have changed, theirs have had to change as well and now they help to mother our children when we can’t be there. They cuddle and teach our kids how to do things that many moms have no interest in. They teach them how to get bugs out of the house and safely outside. How to change a tire and scale a fish. They miss time from work to nurse a cold and stress out when dinner doesn’t come out just the way they pictured it- even if it’s coming off the grill instead of the stove! Most importantly, dads support us. They encourage us to be strong women, to follow our dreams and achieve our goals even in the face of motherhood, which, as you all know, can sometimes be very daunting. Father’s Day is a day to thank them for their support, encouragement, hard work and love. It’s one day out of the year specifically slotted for their recognition. And we’re wondering…..

What will you and your family be doing on Sunday for Father’s Day? Do the kids pick out a new tie for your husband every year to add to his collection? Is there a long standing tradition in your family when Father’s Day rolls around? Do you cook up his favorite meal or pack up the kiddos and head out to his most favorite restaurant? I like the idea of going to a restaurant since it gives both parents a night off of kitchen duty! Please share some ideas with the LiveMom community. Some of us are still undecided and can’t figure out what we will do for papa.

  1. Unfortunately my father passed away 12 years ago. Father’s day was a really painful holiday for me, so I’m so happy to be able to celebrate my husband on this day now.

    Here’s what I have planned:

Strawberry-stuffed french toast hearts (thanks Rachael Ray!) for breakfast (I made these last year and they were a huge hit!)

Ginger rib eye steaks for dinner (thanks allrecipes.com!)

and I bought him a set of bongo drums that he wanted, so he can get his Matthew McConaughey on a can crusher. Random. But he wanted one. I braved Harbor Freight to buy it so he owes me BIG!

And the boys made him cards.

    :)
