Hurricane Ike
The news was on the tube last night and the kids were listening to the weather forecast. Ike hitting the Texas coast has become the most likely scenario with the prediction that it will move into the Central Texas area as a Tropical Storm on Saturday. Questions were asked- would there be damage, tornadoes, flooding? I tried to answer honestly without really knowing if the storm would hit or how bad it would be. When I said that there is a possibility of all of those things happening with a tropical storm over us, the kids took it upon themselves to start planning. They ran to the computer to look up what to do to prepare… which I thought was an excellent idea. It never hurts to have supplies on hand or to know what to do when bad weather hits, especially with our sometimes erratic Texas weather.
So, what exactly should one do to be prepared for hurricane conditions? Check it out here.
The Capital Area Food Bank is beginning a food drive today for the victims of Hurricane Ike. They are in need of:
- Bottled water
- Granola bars
- Canned meats with pop-top lids
- Peanut butter
- Diapers
