The Weekenders: Events for Austin Families, September 12-14, 2008
Well, people, this is kind of a lame Weekenders! With the weather likely to turn nasty here in Central Texas due to Hurricane Ike, it may be wise to plan Saturday indoors and off the Austin roadways. Rent some good movies, read a book, play some board games, catch up on laundry, create some new recipes to share on LiveMom… just some good old fashioned, rainy-day family time! There are a few things happening on Sunday- the Museum Day will keep you dry and entertained- so long as there aren’t too many tree limbs or power outages in the way. If you are aching to help and get out, there is a need for volunteers; The Red Cross needs volunteers and CASH in a bad way!!!
Most importantly, stay safe. Make sure you have plenty of food and fresh water for a couple of days. Check on your elderly neighbors to ensure that they are equipped as well and try to keep your pets safe!
Middle Moon Festival- Watch performances from several different cultural groups while browsing through the cultural exhibitions, vendors and kid’s activities. FREE!! Saturday, 10:00am- 3:00pm. This event has been moved inside for weather. Asian American Cultural Center, 11713 Jollyville Rd.
Austin Museum Day- What a perfect weekend for a FREE museum day across Austin. Have relatives or friends in town from the coast? This is a nice activity that appeals to all ages (the Children’s Museum is included in this as well!!). With over 32 museums participating, you’re sure to find one to please everyone. Special activities planned include sculpting demonstrations at the Umlauf Sculpture Garden and Museum; a “dino dig” at the Texas Memorial Museum; a chance to search for treasures in Elisabet Ney’s castle; an opportunity to go “behind the plexiglass” at the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum; and really cool bugs at the Wild Basin Wilderness Preserve. Click here for the times and a complete list of all participating locations. Sunday, Citywide.
5th Annual La Piazza Italianna- Ferrari car show, Moto Guzzi, Aprilia & Ducati scooters, olive oil tasting, arts & crafts, portraits, Italian fashion, food, gelato, espresso and wine, with live music, Mediterranean belly dancing, clowns, face painting and more. Sunday, 4:00-9:00pm. $10 Adults, children 12 and under free. Laguna Gloria, W 35th Street.

Cool interview. I’m a fit mom and I’ve got a cool contest to share with TMF. I’m teaming up with lucy activewear to giveaway two pink breast cancer awareness tees. They are adorable and support a great cause. Here’s the link:
