Featuring: Lafe’s Natural BodyCare
What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word plastic?
The first word I usually think of is toxic. Why? Well, if you’ve paid any attention to the reports over the last couple of years about all of the toxins from plastics leaching into our food and beverages, then you can understand the reason why I think about plastics that way. It’s not a good relationship that I have with plastics anymore. Being on a budget, I’ve learned to spend a little more for higher quality products, which includes making the choice to purchase something that costs a little more that’s in a glass bottle over purchasing more of the less expensive items that are in plastics.
Several months ago, I happened to find EaFree, which then led me to Lafe’s- a line of natural bodycare products that has been created by Lafe Larson, a local Austinite. I thought it was cool that he lives here in Austin, and as I kept reading, I also discovered that he was planning on launching a line of babycare products that are contained in baby-safe plastics. Now, you’re probably wondering what the heck I’m talking about when I say baby-safe plastic. Well, get this, it’s plastic that is free of estrogenic activity- which can have some negative effects on your hormonal functions. It’s also free of BPA and phthalates.
The babycare products are all at least 95% organic (cool, eh?) and the packaging is free of all of these harmful toxins that can easily leach into our bodies. How cool is that, moms? Read more from the company’s recent press release:
Not only are the products in the line certified organic by the U.S.
Department of Agriculture, earning the USDA's prestigious green seal
indicating the ingredients are 95 percent certified organic, but they are
also packaged in what Lafe's is terming "baby-safe plastic," free of
harmful estrogenic activity (EA) chemicals that trigger endocrine
disruption.
Lafe's Organic Baby will also be introducing sunscreen, diaper cream,
and baby wipes later this year.
Larson said, "I started this company in the mid-1990s in order to fight
the effects of harmful chemicals that many body care products --
particularly deodorants -- were having on people. I'm convinced there's a
connection between disease and the toxic chemicals found in everyday
personal care products."
Citing the alarming rise of infertility in young couples, and concerns
around the impact of EA chemicals such as Bisphenol A (BPA) and phthalates
on children's hormonal functions, Founder and CEO Lafe Larson says
concerned parents will finally have a worry-free choice for baby care
products.
He added, "Now we understand that what's in the packaging is as
important as what is in the product. Researchers have shown that chemicals
leeching from everyday plastic bottles can have alarming long-term health
effects on babies. We're adopting a higher standard in product packaging
for our baby products in order to provide parents with a safer option."
