Appropriate Tips
I wonder if I’m cheap. Well, I already know that I’m cheap, but I wonder if I’m too cheap when it comes to leaving tips. Like, maybe I’m still tipping with rates from the late nineties or something along those lines. I leave twenty percent with a good waiter, less if the service was crappy. What I’m not sure about is how much to tip for the following:
Hairstylist
Massage Therapist
Velet Parking
Bellboy
Manicure/ Pedicure
Eyebrow Waxing
Are there rules that dictate the amount to give for the above or is it up to your own personal discretion?
You see, I got my hair cut on Friday and really liked it. I left him a $10 tip. Then, on Saturday night, I went out for a girl’s night and they were saying they tip $20 for their masseuse. I thought that just maybe I undertipped the hairstylist and feel really bad. I thought I was leaving a good tip for the guy, but I’m not so sure now. Do you go by any written rules when it comes to tipping? Or do you base it on how much cash is in your wallet at the time? Please share with me so that I can properly tip in the future!!

I always leave 20% across the board. To get my hair done, this usually means a $15 tip (it costs $100 @ JR Salon for cut & color – great deal). For manis, pedis, and brow waxing I may leave a little more than 20% as these services are typically less costly and I feel weird leaving $3 – I usually round up to $5. But, I could be cheap too…

I leave 20% as general rule for all services, except at coffee houses, where I tip at 50 to 100% – because I could be sitting there for 3 to 5 hours (painting people w/o them knowing it).
Wish this blog would have been around when my daughter was little!
