Hiring for the Holidays

I listened to a report on NPR this morning about part-time holiday work drying up this year. There just aren’t enough shoppers out there to allow many companies to hire additional seasonal employees. Overall, the national economy is suffering, but what’s going on here in Austin? Are you one of the many who pick up a part-time gig this time of year for some extra money? Are there still retailers in Austin hiring extra hands for the holidays? Certainly there’s still some work to be had: retailers, bakeries, caterers, Christmas tree stands…

We’re curious to know if you’ve had a tougher time this year or if it’s business as usual. Feel free to share your story with us! Tell us where you’ve looked and whether you’ve been successful or not.

  1. I heard the same thing this morning and was wondering if that’s going on here in A-town. Fortunate for me, I have only one job and am not going to be looking anytime soon (fingers crossed).

I see parking lots full of shoppers all over town so it seems like Austin is doing fine so far.
