The Weekenders: Events for Austin Families, January 9-11, 2009

11th Annual Austin Spring Home and Garden Show- Showcasing the latest and greatest for all of your home building or remodeling needs. Meet Bob Villa from PBS’s “This Old House”. While this may not sound like the kids would have a good time, they can grab candy and freebies from the vendors and there will also be a Birds of Prey demonstration. There are giveaways too!! Tickets, $7.50 for all adults over 17, under 16 are free. Bring a non-perishable food item to donate to the Capital Area Food Bank and receive $1 off admission. Boar’s Head Pageant- This delightful theatrical presentation is about a King’s banquet and festivities as the royal court awaits the arrival of the Magi with live music, professional performers and elaborate period costumes. Hot wassail served after the performances. Medieval costumes optional. Free general seating, $10 reserved seating. Saturday, 7:00pm and Sunday, 6:00pm. St. Albert the Great Catholic Church, Bittern Hollow and Metric Blvd.

The Lovely, Likable Letter “L” Storytime- A storytime focused only on the letter “L” with a reading of Leonardo the Terrible Monster and lollipops served at the end. Saturday, 11:30am. BookPeople, Sixth and Lamar.

Crafts for Kids- This week’s craft is a Festive Mask for kiddos to hide behind! Every Saturday from 11:00am-3:00pm for kids ages 3 and up. FREE!! Lakeshore Learning Store, 9828 Great Hills Trail.

Family Saturday at AMOA- Magnificent Movement Magnified: Yoga and Photography for Families. Explore movement inspired by Sebastiao Salgado: Workers in a family-friendly yoga class led by Brandy Arena of Bea Love Yoga from 12:30-1:15 pm. Then photograph your favorite body part in movement, experiment with materials that move, and take home your own photographic work of art! Saturday from Noon-4:00pm. Only $7 per family or $5 if you are a member. Austin Museum of Art, 9th and Congress.

IMAX Family Day- Explore the “Wild Ocean” with singing zoologist, Lucas Miller, as he presents an educational musical program about animal life on planet Earth. Saturday from 1:00-4:00pm. $7 adults, $5 for kids. The Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum, 1800 N. Congress Ave.
