Conduct an interview with yourself to tell prospective parents a little about yourself. LiveMom’s Annette interviewed Dr. Laura, but if you aren’t sure about doing it yourself, have a friend write up some questions. Here’s an example of what you can talk about in your interview:
Laura Alport, a petite native of Chicago with an artist’s flare, has traveled the world working tirelessly developing an insightful dissertation on the evolution taste. She’s earned a doctorate in physical anthropology with academics urging her to continue her amazing research. However, Dr. Laura has left behind her scientific endeavors to pursue her heart’s calling; Dr. Laura wants to be a Nanny!
Dr. Laura, what brought you to Austin?
After getting a bachelor’s degree in fine art and taking some time off of school, I came to Austin to study biological anthropology at UT. The aspect of biological anthropology that has always interested me is the relationship between biology and behavior. This interest lead me to study the evolution of the sense of taste and the interactions between taste sensitivity and food selection among primates. I have been very lucky in my graduate career and had the opportunity to travel the world to study primates, including a trip to Madagascar with a 4-year-old, which was great!
Why do you want to be a nanny? Have you nannied in the past?
I started babysitting when I was 13 and have always loved it. In graduate school, I continued to nanny part time. I had three primary clients: one started at 4 months old, one at 5 months old, and one at 2.5 years old. After finishing my PhD, I looked back at my graduate career and realized that the nannying I did was one of the most rewarding parts of my time here. I love seeing the kids grow and develop and learn, and I like helping them in that process. I know when I see them thriving that I’ve been a part of that, which is truly rewarding.
