A Bigger Car
There’s nothing like a family road trip to make you realize that you need a larger car. Yes, I fought the urge to rent a minivan for our long trip in the car, rationalizing that my Volvo wagon was big enough. But, it’s a bit cramped. And uncomfortable. And cramped. Did I mention cramped?
I have fought the urge to upgrade to a minivan for a long time. Not that I’m against family cars- my Volvo screams mom from miles away. But a minivan? Driven by me? But with two kids and the possibility of more in the future, I think I’m going to need to upgrade.
What do you drive? Are there any cars out there that are big enough to accommodate a large family that doesn’t make you feel like such a mom? Something sexy and hip? Does that type of “mom car” exist? Do you have a minivan that you really like and can’t imagine driving anything else now? Is there anything in between a car and a minivan that is a nice family-friendly ride? Help me out, ladies! I just might end up buying one for our trip back to Texas…..

I have a Mazda CX-7 and it is a cute, sexy ‘mom’ car. It is a cross-over and there is a CX-9 that is a little bigger. I think the 9 has a 3rd row seating option. And an 09 CX-7 is right around 20k. It’s kinda like a minivan, but better!

I drive a Volvo wagon too and am normally really against the idea of a minivan but…I really really love the Mazda 5. In black, it is a very sexy mom car!

We broke down and bought a minivan (Honda Odyseey) and LOVE IT! I was so against it, at first, but it REALLY does make life easier. When you are driving it, you feel like you are in a luxury vehicle (we got the fully loaded model). We also looked at the Mercedes 350/550 (6 passenger cross over with a 3 rows of captains chairs – it was AWESOME) but not quite big enough to take our 3 dogs in addition to our kids and the grandmas. We felt like if we were going to make the change to make things easier — might as well just make things easier, than trying to be cool in the process.
We have decided that minivans are the new cool — and those that do not have the balls to drive one because they are afraid of being “un-cool” are just missing out!

OH,MY! I say drive a car that will make you happy. We only have one toddler, so I am not a good person to ask. I find that which ever car I am driving( my maxium or rx330), its not the car that makes me feel sexy. Its the music. If there is a sexy song on the radio or c.d. player, I put my shades on and drive. Sometimes pretending that Justin Timberlake is singing to me.

I loved my Honda (may it rest in peace in car heaven) and my little Sentra is not too bad. However I only have the one and whenever we talk about upgrading our family (and therefore car) we think of a Honda CR-V because it looks like an SUV but doesn’t seem as bulky.

Nissan Quest….that’s how I roll. NEVER thought I would be a mini-van mama, but I love her. You can get really good deals on new and program cars right now. Back-up camera, DVD w/ wirelss headphones, all rear control units, auto doors….what was I thinking all those years? Mini-vans ARE the coolest ride out there. Happy car hunting!

No there is not. Boo Hoo. I drive a car that gets compliments all the time but I still feel like such a soccer mom in it. I drive a black Nissan Armada with all the bells and whistles but I still feel like it’s a big neon sign flashing “MOM MOM MOM”. I think it’s a mentality thing. There are moms that rock their minivan and love it.
