Music in the Park Summer Concert Series- Bring a blanket, snacks and your cooler for an evening of live music by The Fireants. Friday from 7:00 – 9:00pm. FREE!! Pfluger Park, 515 City Park Rd., Pflugerville.
The Music Man- The 51st Annual Zilker Summer Musical is back! The Music Man follows fast-talking traveling salesman, Harold Hill, as he cons the people of River City, Iowa into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band he vows to organize – this despite the fact he doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian the librarian, who transforms him into a respectable citizen by curtain’s fall. Friday, Saturday and Sunday at approximately 8:30pm. FREE!! Parking, $3 per car. Beverly S. Sheffield Zilker Hillside Theatre, across from Barton Springs Pool in Zilker Park.
Live Music at Century Oaks Park- Take a break from shopping or dining and listen to live music for FREE! Friday from 6:00- 8:30pm; Laura Scarborough. Music Under the Star- Bring your lawn chairs, blankets and your entire family for FREE live music, food from Rudy’s Bar-B-Q, Mighty Fine Burgers, Blue Bell Ice Cream and Sweet Leaf Teas- while supplies last. The popular summer concert series for Austin families is back for four Friday’s in July. This Friday’s performance is by Austin Blues Society Harmonica Blow-Out and Miss Lavelle White. There will be a songwriting and Harmonica workshop with free harmonicas for the first 300 kids from 5:00- 6:00pm. Friday, 6:00- 9:00pm. Summer Musical: Seusical- Seussical is a family event that is put on by the Art, Band, Choral, Dance, Orchestra and Theatre students of AISD. Friday, 7:00pm; Saturday, 2:30pm and 7:00pm. $10 Students, $15 adults. Stephen F. Austin High School, 1715 W. Cesar Chavez.
Bastille Day Celebration- Enjoy live music by Olivier Giraud and his band, Continental Graffiti along with fine French food, wine, local beer and a silent auction. $8, children under 12 free. Saturday, 6:30- 11:00pm. The French Legation Museum, 802 San Marcos St.
Buggin’ Out- What is the difference between bugs and insects? What is an exoskeleton? Are spiders insects? Kids will get the opportunity to learn all of this and more at Buggin’ Out Eco-Kids 2009. Saturday, 9:30am. There will be activities for kids of all ages. Free t-shirts and snacks while supplies last. FREE!!

BookKids Storytime and Book Release Parties- This week’s storytime will be all about the moon as we celebrate the 40th anniversary of landing on the moon. FREE!! Saturday, 11:30am. There are also two book release parties happening on Saturday that are kid-friendly: Chris Barton’s Day-Glo Brothers at 1:00pm- a picture book all about where those funky neon colors come from. And K.A. Holt- A local Austin writer who is having a book release party for her new book, Mike Stellar: Nerves of Steel at 6:00pm. BookPeople, 603 N. Lamar.
Lowe’s Build and Grow Clinic- The kids can build a Treasure Chest to store all of the fond vacation memories in! FREE!! Saturday, 10:00- 11:00am. All participating Lowe’s locations.
The Reptile Guy Show- Time Cole will be bringing along his live reptiles for an educational and entertaining show! FREE!! Saturday, 1:00pm. Wells Branch Community Library, 15001 Wells Port Dr.
Second Saturdays are for Families- Discover how artist Louise Bourgeois created her own memory book out of recycled fabric in the exhibition The Lining of Forgetting. Then, head over to the Community Room to transform old clothing into a family album that everyone can use! Saturday, Noon- 4:00pm. See Tortuga del Mar at 1:00, a traditional puppet show presented by Austin Public Library Literature LIVE! $7 for the entire family; $5 for member families. Austin Museum of Art, 823 Congress Ave.
Kidgits Safe Summer- Bring your kids out to learn some important safety tips with fun, hands-on activities. The APD Bomb Squad and Austin Fire Department will be there as well. Yes, there will be a firetruck and helicopter for the kiddos entertainment. Get a free Child I.D. kit, a free ice cream bowl and spoon for each child and kids can decorate their very own bug jars.
