Obama’s School Speech

I’m not sure why I got so choked up while reading what President Obama talked about this morning to children across the nation. Perhaps it’s because we have a leader who is taking some interest in our children. Maybe it’s just touching to read about where he’s been in his life and how he overcame many obstacles to become our President. Or, maybe it’s because he’s backing me up in what I try to stress to my son on a daily basis. My favorite line, one that I hope my son heard today, was:

“I’ve talked about your parents’ responsibility for making sure you stay on track, and get your homework done, and don’t spend every waking hour in front of the TV or with that Xbox. “

How sad that these distractions- video games and television- are such a force to be reckoned with, but how happy I am to have a strong leader who is challenging my child to be responsible for his actions and his education!

If you weren’t able to watch or read the speech this morning, here’s a link.

What are your thoughts on President Obama’s speech? Did you allow your kids to watch it? Do you feel that your school district handled it appropriately?

  1. Wow! Very moving! I am sorry that I missed the speech today but thanks for posting the link. It is great to have a president who takes the time to talk to the children and let them know that their hard work matters too, not just the decision adults make for them.

  2. That was a beautiful speech and I’m sorry I missed out. I hope everyone who comes across this takes it to heart and puts it to good use with their children.

  3. Sometimes, I really have to question the cause of all the vitriol against this man. He is a good man who by account is only trying to make the country better. If most of us could take off our political hat for one single day, it would be very clear that we have a good president. Very moving speech. If it made a difference in the life of one child, it’s purpose would have been served.
