Thursday’s Dish: French Toast Casserole
Just a quick note to wish you a Merry Christmas and share a good Christmas morning recipe, in case you need a last-minute idea. It’s quick to make if you prep everything the night before, then put it in the oven between stockings and presents and presto! A yummy, easy, festive dish.
French Toast Casserole
5 cups bread cubes
6 links cooked breakfast sausage, sliced into coins
4 eggs
1 1/2 cups milk
1/4 cup white sugar, divided
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 tablespoon butter, softened
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Maple syrup
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly butter an 8×8-inch pan. Put bread cubes and sausage in pan. In large bowl, beat together eggs, milk, 2 tablespoons sugar, salt and vanilla. Pour over all. Dot with butter; let stand for 10 minutes. Combine remaining sugar with cinnamon and sprinkle over the top. Bake in preheated oven about 45 to 50 minutes, until top is golden. Drizzle individual servings with maple syrup.
