Christmas Tree Recycling
Recycling this year’s Christmas tree couldn’t get any easier if you live in Austin and have curbside, pay as you throw trash pick up. All you have to do is leave it on the curb on your normal trash day, minus the tree stand and ornaments, to be picked up and turned into Dillo Dirt or mulch! For particulars, click here. If you don’t have curbside trash pick up, Zilker Park has a recycling spot set up on the following dates:

What if you live in one of Austin’s many suburbs? Here’s what you can do with you tree:
Round Rock is offering free tree recycling at the Round Rock Brush Recycling Center on January 3, 2009 from 9:00am- 6:00pm. To encourage residents to recycle, they are offering a free seedling while supplies last.
Cedar Park is once again hosting their annual Christmas Tree Recycling Program on January 3rd from 9:00am- Noon at the Cedar Park City Hall, 600 N. Bell Blvd. They are also handing out a free seedling to residents while supplies last.
Pflugerville residents can drop off their trees at the Wells Branch Soccer Fields on Heatherwilde and Olympic Drive anytime up until January 7, 2009. The will have signs directing you where to stack the trees, which will then be turned into mulch.
San Marcos Parks and Recreation will be accepting trees until January 13, 2009 at the Grant Harris Building at 401 East Hopkins Street. Residents are asked to leave the trees inside the fenced enclosure next to the stage.
Pedernales Electric Cooperative will also accept Christmas trees dropped of until January 4, 2009 during regular business hours at PEC’s offices in Bertram, Canyon Lake, Cedar Park, Johnson City, Junction, Kyle, Lake Travis, Liberty Hill, Manchaca, Marble Falls and Oak Hill. This is free to area residents as part of PEC’s Green Works Initiative.
Now remember to remove all ornaments, tinsel, decorations, candy canes and the tree stand before taking it to be recycled! Also, most of the mulch from these recycled trees will be available to residents. Be sure to check the city websites for details on when it will be available and where you can pick it up at.
