Skating on the Plaza- Enjoy a round or two in the rink on Austin’s first and only outdoor ice skating rink on the Whole Foods rooftop plaza! Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10:00am- 10:00pm with the last skating session beginning at 9:00pm. Tickets, $10 per person for one hour, includes skate rental. Whole Foods, 525 N. Lamar Blvd.
Mr. Tamarin’s Trees Puppet Show and Tree Planting- Join us for a presentation of a favorite puppet show, Mr. Tamarin’s Trees, followed by a community tree planting activity. FREE!! Saturday, 2:00pm. Yarborough Branch Library, 2200 Hancock Dr
Lowe’s Build and Grow- A FREE hands-on clinic that is for kids of all ages! This month’s project will be to build a Coin Bank! Register online to reserve a spot. Saturday, 10:00- 11:00am. All participating Lowe’s locations.
Flipnotics Kid’s Show- Enjoy a FREE performance by Laura Freeman and the Hey Lollies! Saturday, 10:00am. Flipnotics, 1601Barton Springs Rd.
Crafts for Kids- Brings the kids, ages 3 and up, to make a Funky Bow Tie! FREE!! Saturday between 11:00am- 3:00pm. Lakeshore Learning Store, 9828 Great Hills Trail.
Family Yoga with Cindy- Enjoy a FREE (with purchase from cafe) yoga session for the entire family! Saturday, 10:00-11:00am. Ruta Maya Coffee Shop, 3601 S. Congress Ave.
Second Saturdays are for Families: ARTventures in Soft Sculpture- See how local artist Jade Walker transforms fabric and everyday materials into abstract, natural forms in the New Works: Jade Walker exhibition. Get inspired by the art on view and then drop into the Community Room to create your own soft sculpture out of found objects and materials! Also, join Brandy Arena of Bea Love Yoga for a family yoga class at 1:00pm. Please bring a yoga mat if you have one. $7 Family/ $5 Member Family. Saturday, Noon- 4:00pm. Sensory Friendly Movie- AMC Entertainment and the Autism Society of America have teamed up to bring families affected by autism and other disabilities a special opportunity to enjoy movies in a safe and accepting environment. With Sensory Friendly Films, the theaters will have the lights brought up and the sound turned down. Viewers who can’t sit still or stay quiet for the entire show are welcome to join us while they practice “movie behavior.” Individuals on special diets can even bring their own snacks (keep in mind that AMC popcorn without butter is GFCF!). This month’s movie is “Alvin and the Chipmunks 2″. Tickets, $5 per person. Saturday, 10:00am. AMC Barton Creek, 2901 Capital of Texas Highway (located inside the mall).
11th Annual Reptile and Amphibian Show- Educational displays, including a native Texas snakes display, and a venomous snake display! Raffles throughout the weekend benefiting the Austin Herpetological Society. Over 60 tables and lots of merchandise for sale. Saturday, 10:00am- 5:00pm; Sunday, 11:00am- 4:00pm. $8 per person or $12 for both days. Children under five are free with an adult. Dell Diamond United Heritage Center, 3400 E. Book Box Storytime- Each Saturday, a guest will sing songs, read stories and then wrap it all up with a fun arts & craft project! FREE!! Saturday at Noon. Beth’s Book Box, 15803 Windermere Dr., Pflugerville.
Science Sunday- Learn how to identify Texas animals with volunteers from Westcave Preserve! Volunteers will bring animal tracks and scat replicas and will present related hands-on activities. Admission, $6.50-4.50. Sunday, 3:00- 5:00pm.Free admission from 4:00- 5:00pm. Austin Children’s Museum, 201 Colorado Street.
Sunday Morning Kid’s Show- Kids (and parents!) will get a chance to sing, play, and move along to Music Together’s award-winning collection of easy, fun, adaptable songs led by Michael Shay. FREE!! Sunday, 10:30am. Ruta Maya Coffee Shop, 3601 S. Congress Avenue.
Storytime at the Library- Enjoy a FREE storytime. Sunday, 1:00pm. Faulk Central Library, 800 Guadalupe.
