Winter always brings questionable weather here in Austin and more time indoors…a great time to make some art! Here is a look at a few calls for art:
All Kids Can…Create!
State of the Art
Call for Art by Children Ages 5-15
DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 5, 2010
Calling all children! VSA arts and CVS Caremark All Kids Can encourage you to share your creativity by submitting artwork to All Kids Can…CREATE!, a national call for children’s art. The theme, State of the Art, invites young people with and without disabilities across the United States to explore their environments and discover the roles they play within their communities.
All artwork submitted before the February 5, 2010 deadline will be included in an online art gallery and considered for display in a national touring exhibition that will debut in Washington, D.C. The exhibition will be on view during the month of June and will feature one piece of artwork from every state and the District of Columbia.
All submissions to the call will be included within the exhibition in an interactive kiosk even if they have not been selected for the touring show. The 51 selected artists will be invited to a reception to celebrate the opening of the exhibition. While in Washington, D.C. for the opening reception, these young people will have a chance to join in the largest celebration of the arts and disability in the world: The 2010 International VSA Arts Festival.

The Art of Autism
Call for Art by Artists with Autism
Open to any individual of any age diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder that lives in the Central Texas area
DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 12, 2010
The National Autism Association of Central Texas is partnering with VSA Arts of Texas for the 2010 ‘The Art of Autism’ project as a celebration of the many artistic talents of individuals with Autism.
In January and February of 2010 NAACT will be collecting art from the Autism community. A winner will be chosen and will be featured in the 2011 NAACT calendar. The art will be sold on an auction website. Each participant will receive a donation of 10% of the proceeds from their donated artwork. Each participant’s artwork will be displayed in a special section of the NAACT website, www.naacentraltexas.org and at Kerbey Lane Café in Austin, TX! Interested artists and schools should contact NAACT at 512.656.6099 or by email at artofautism@naacentraltexas.org to be supplied with an 8×10 canvas art boards for your art. These art boards work well with oil, acrylic, or tempera paints. All art medium is welcome and encouraged. Print and fill out the application and attach it to the back of the art piece.
