Joy Fawcett, Ultimate Soccer Mom, Heading to Austin Saturday

When it comes to soccer, there are few better role models out there for girls and moms than Joy Fawcett. A 2009 inductee to the Soccer Hall of Fame, Joy played every minute of every game for the U.S. in each World Cup and Olympic Tournament between 1995 and 2004. Featured with her teammates in the documentary I encourage you to watch, Dare to Dream, Joy is a pioneer for women’s soccer, inspiring legions of young girls to embrace the world’s most popular sport.

Fawcett had her first daughter in 1994 and returned to play two weeks later to prepare for the second Women’s World Cup. Joy’s second and third daughters arrived in 1997 and 2001, and she continued balancing the demands of having a family with being one of the most respected players in U.S. soccer history.

Joy is now teaming up with the Positive Coaching Alliance and Cuties California Clementines and Mandarins to visit soccer tournaments across the country to find the “Ultimate Soccer Mom”. She’ll be in Austin this Saturday at the Austin United Soccer Club’s Capital Cup Tournament at the Westcreek Fields near Oak Hill. Joy will also be leading mini-clinics for young soccer players, signing autographs for fans and mentoring parents about the power of “Second-Goal” ParentingTM, developed by Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA), which focuses on the “second goal” of youth sports – life lessons – along with the goal of winning on the scoreboard.

So take the kids to meet Joy this weekend and see if you or someone you know might be anointed the Ultimate Soccer Mom!

Look for an interview with Joy here on LiveMom next week. Have any questions we should ask Joy? Post them in the comments section.
