ACL Preview: Rocknoceros
We’re excited to be covering the Austin City Limits Music Festival (aka ACL) this year. As a part of our coverage, all week we’ll be bringing you profiles of the bands and artists that will grace the Festival’s 8 stages.
We caught up with “Coach”, one of the three members of Rocknoceros, who answered some questions for us. The band hails from the DC area and their latest album is Colonel Purple Turtle. They were recognized as the Best Children’s Music Artist four consecutive times at the Washington Area Music Awards. Since I used to live outside of DC, I reached out to my friends who are still there, to see if they had ever taken their kids to see the bands. They all gave Rocknoceros an enthusiastic thumbs up, so the band is definitely parent-approved.
You can catch Rocknoceros on Friday Oct 12 at 12:30 PM and Saturday Oct 13 at 11:30 AM on the HEB-Kids stage.
LiveMom: How would you describe your sound? Who are your musical influences?
Coach: Our sound is a kaleidoscope of musical genres. You can hear rockabilly, Tin Pan Alley, the Beatles, jazz, and bluegrass influences throughout our recordings.
LiveMom: Is this your first ACL?
Coach: Yes, this will be our first ACL. We cannot wait!
LiveMom: Have you been to Austin before? Are there other things you plan to see and do while you are here?
Coach: Rocknoceros has never visited Austin before. We are collecting ideas from fans on things to do around Austin, but most likely we will be checking out a bunch of ACL shows.
LiveMom: What bands are you most looking forward to seeing perform at ACL?
Coach: I’m looking forward to seeing/hearing the Shins, Andrew Bird, Gary Clark Jr, M. Ward, and Neil Young and Crazy Horse.
Do you have any suggestions of what the band should do while they are in town?
