Shop Local Picks: Parts & Labour

If you celebrate Christmas, you are painfully aware that the clock is ticking. Yes, you’d love to find the perfect gift…of course! But where to go? How do I find something for not just one person on my list? Something unique! Something I’ve never seen before! Something handmade/cruelty-free/organic/free-trade/non-toxic/blahblahblahblah…

Shopping local can be daunting if you don’t quite know where to go. One place I find myself returning each holiday season is Parts & Labour. Located on South Congress, but just at the start of all the stores and restaurants (hint hint: outside of the back-in parking zone, if that intimidates you as it does me!), it’s a great store with all kinds of cool gift ideas. There are lots of handmade items, such as jewelry, soaps, clothes, kids’ stuff and much more. The main challenge with going inside the store is leaving without buying something for yourself. And that’s a good problem to have this time of year…right?

Here are just a few things I found…

For the kids in your life (great for both recent transplants and those who have moved away but still have Texas ties):

This adorable armadillo plush from February 10 Designs is $22.

For that special guy (there are also many other funny shirts to choose from):

Because sometimes it really *is* all about rainbows and unicorns. $24

For those looking to restore order in their abode:

These cool wall hooks by Misha Blaise Design are great for families and entryways. Priced at $22 and $26.

For science-loving females:

Totally cute purse from Crafty Monkey. $50

If New Year’s gifts are more your style:

Statistics show writing down your goals goes a big way towards achieving them, so you can do your part making it easier. Mission Magnets are $3 or 2 for $5

For your lady friends:

For the hostess with the most-ess:

They’ll be trendy, hip, eco-friendly and all that with these Topo Chico salt & pepper shakers. $20

OK, OK, I’ll admit it. I got something for me!

Happy early birthday to me! What used to be spoons are now rings. I spied this on my shopping trip last year and decided to get it this year. $15

Note: It’s that time of year where folks are in super shopping mode, so my posting here doesn’t guarantee it’s in stock at the store. If you have your heart set on something, you’d better give the store a ring before you head on down (especially if you are braving the store with kid/s in tow).
