For two consecutive three-day weekends in October, Austin rolls out the green carpet of Zilker’s Great Lawn to welcome the over 100 bands and artists who play the Austin City Limits Music Festival, or, as it’s more commonly known, ACL. To help you get ready, we will be sharing what we’ve learned covering the festival for the past five years. We’ll also help you decide what bands to add to your 2015 ACL schedule. For even more on this year’s festival, check us out on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and be sure to take a look at our 2015 ACL board on Pinterest.
One of the bands on our must-see list for the 2015 ACL Music Festival is Muddy Magnolias, a two-lady duo that blends country with funk, jazz and R&B. Band members Jessy Wilson, who hails from Brooklyn, and Kallie North, who has her roots in East Texas, will release their debut album, produced by Butch Walker, on January 22nd. One notable aspect of Muddy Magnolias’ songs is the way in which they offer the perspective of grown women, with hard-earned, real-life experiences. “We have amazing stories, and they’re not perfect,” says North. “They’re filled with insecurity and pain, and also being badass—moments of taking on the world and moments of being taken on.”
Here’s the band’s girl power anthem, “American Woman” (which, in typical badass lady fashion, does contain profanity, in case you’d rather listen when little ears aren’t nearby):
Catch Muddy Magnolias on the BMI stage on Sunday, October 4 from 6:30-7:30pm.

We had the chance to ask the band about their musical influences, what they are most looking forward to about performing at ACL and what’s up next for the band.
LiveMom: How would you describe your sound? Who are your musical influences?
Muddy Magnolias: Our music melds city grit with Delta dirt. Our musical influences come from several genres, R&B, pop, country, soul, and blues.
LiveMom: What are you most looking forward to about performing at ACL?
Muddy Magnolias: ACL is our favorite festival! We’re looking forward to bringing music to music lovers in Austin, TX.
LiveMom: Have you been to Austin before? Are there other things you plan to see and do while you are here?
Muddy Magnolias: We’ve both been to Austin before. Kallie lived and worked in Austin, and Jessy’s visited several times. We plan to visit all the great clothing stores and restaurants, including our favorite restaurant spot, Gueros.
LiveMom: What bands are you most looking forward to seeing perform at the Festival?
Muddy Magnolias: We are most looking forward to seeing the Suffers, The Weeknd, and Halsey.
LiveMom: What’s next for the band after ACL?
