Event: Austin Bat Cave’s Bat-to-School Bash 2015, 10/25

Jackie Venson

Austin Bat Cave, a non-profit that teaches free writing programs for kids ages 6-18, is hosting its Bat-to-School Bash 2015, featuring Jackie Venson, on Sunday, October 25 from 4-7:30pm at ONE-2-ONE on S. Lamar.

The community is invited to support the important, creative writing of children, while enjoying a live music performance by singer songwriter guitarist Jackie Venson, free food and a chance to hear the kids’ writing. All ages with parent or guardian ages 21 and up are invited. Presale tickets are available for $20, or $25 at the door, with proceeds after costs benefiting ABC’S free writing programs for kids. Event Sponsored by Cirrus Logic.

The Statesman described Venson as “a Gary Clark Jr.-level talent who speaks boldly through her guitar while entrancing with her gorgeous, smoky voice.” Mayor Adler pronounced May 21 to be the Jackie Venson Day and said: “She is compared to the likes of Joss Stone and Amy Winehouse and Austin native Gary Clark Jr….Originally a classic pianist, she picked up the guitar and made the leap from classical to raw, gritty blues. Multi-instrumentalist, a singer-songwriter with an out of this world voice..”

Austin Bat Cave offers all sorts of writing programs, from those that are sorely needed–such as tutoring and academic essay assistance–to those that provide kids with creative outlets and avenues for exploration, such as songwriting, screenwriting, and poetry workshops. All programs are highly tailored to the schools and the students the organization serves.
