Event: Excused Absence Improv Festival For Kids

Excused Absence Improv Festival is taking place right here in Austin over the weekend of May 1st – 3rd.

The Festival is an opportunity for students and educators to take Improv Comedy workshops, see quality performances and participate in a number of Improv-related social events, including a guided student Improv Jam where the students have the chance to apply their lessons with other attendees.

Excused Absence is produced by Austin-based youth Improv company, Move Your Tale at ColdTowne Theater and will include instruction from experienced performers and teachers. (You can read more about Kristin Henn, the founder of Move Your Tale, in the profile we ran on her here on LiveMom.) Performers include some of Austin’s most talented troupes, including Bad Boys, Nice Astronaut and Movie Riot. Educators such as John Ratliff (voted Best Improv Teacher of the Year by The Austin Chronicle 2011), ColdTowne Theater owner Michael Jastroch and Jon Bolden (Producer, Out of Bounds Comedy Festival) offer workshops on a variety of Improv topics.

The festival workshops are designed to accommodate and challenge players of all skill levels from beginners to experienced students.  Workshops details can be found on our website’s Workshops page. If you or your child would prefer to see shows but not participate in workshops, there is also a show-only package that will still allow access to student jams and social events.

Please be advised that roster space for workshops is limited in order to maintain a quality experience for students and the early bird registration deadline is Wednesday, April 1st. Click here to register today!
