Event: National Trails Day, June 6, 2015

National Parks Day

On June 6, 2015, Austin Parks Foundation, Hill Country Conservancy, and Texas Conservation Corps are partnering to host Austin’s local National Trails Day (NTD), the American Hiking Society’s nationwide trails awareness program. Each year Austin participates by coordinating trail repair, improvement, and cleanup projects throughout the city.
AdvertisementEvents take place at locations across the city from 9:00am to 12:00pm, with a Volunteer Appreciation Party immediately afterwards at Roy G. Guerrero Park! Last year, over 500 volunteers participated in 29 separate projects throughout the city.

Sign up to volunteer at over a dozen locations across the area, including Pease Park, Walnut Creek and Onion Creek. If you would like to bring a child, please carefully consider which project you choose. Children must be with a parent at all times.

A native Austinite and soccer-playing mom, Nicole uses her 10-year-old son as an excuse to rediscover her hometown through his eyes. In Thoreau's words, her mission is to "suck out all the marrow of life", or in her son's words, to cultivate in him a love of "advenchers".
