Event: Texas Young Composers Concert

The Austin Symphony invited young Texas composers, ages 18 & younger, to participate in the ASO’s 5th Annual Sarah and Ernest Butler Austin Symphony Texas Young Composers Competition. Interested students submitted one full original (not an arrangement) orchestral composition 7 minutes or less in length. Works used standard orchestral instrumentation and normal doublings: Flutes (Piccolo), Oboes (English Horn), Clarinets (Bass Clarinet), Bassoons (Contra), Horns, Trumpets, Trombones, Tuba, Timpani, Percussion, Harp, Piano and Strings. Works may not have been previously performed, recorded or published professionally.

Nine pieces of music were selected to be performed by the Austin Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of ASO Music Director Peter Bay. Before each piece is performed, you’ll hear what the composer’s thought process was behind their composition.Advertisement
