I met Stephanie Carls at the Texas Conference for Women, and she charmed me right away with her bright smile and impeccable look. Stephanie knows branding well, and she helps companies brand themselves while she works at promoting her own brand with YouTube videos, public speaking, and smartly curated social media channels. She is all this and the mother of two little boys she adores.
Stephanie Carls brightens the room wherever she goes, and I wanted to know more about her and share that with the LiveMom audience.
LiveMom: How long have you lived in Austin, and what brought you here?
Stephanie: I’ve lived in Austin since 2010 and these five years have flown by! I moved for a job opportunity and so glad I did. The community here is amazing and one of the best decisions I’ve made.
LiveMom: How many kids do you have, and what are their ages?
Stephanie: Two adorable (I’m biased…can you tell?) boys: Chase is 6 and Carson is 1. Both of them are coming up on birthdays in the next couple of months, so those numbers are changing quickly. Can’t believe it!
LiveMom: What is your idea of a perfect day with the family in Austin?
Stephanie: I love when the weather is just perfect…right around 70 to 80 degrees. It’s so much fun to be out and enjoy playing. I would love to pack a picnic and sit in Zilker. Be able to run around with the boys, play games, walk around and more. Afterwards, we can take them over to the food trailers and try something new! With all that fresh air, I have a feeling they would be passed out and then my husband and I can sit back and relax to watch a movie together.
LiveMom: If you had 24 hours to yourself in Austin, how would you spend it?
Stephanie: Oh wow…24 hours to myself?! I’m not sure I would know what to do. Nah..kidding…I think I can find a TON of things to do! Being able to shop without pushing a stroller around sounds amazing, right? Shopping first, relaxing lunch outside on a porch in downtown, and then sitting and reading at Mozart’s for the evening. Coming back into the house to kiss my boys goodnight would be the end to a perfect day out.
LiveMom: What do you like best about Austin? What would you change, if you could?
Stephanie: Austin is so laid back and I’m in love with that. It seems that everyone you meet and even work with has a very “ok, no problem, whatever works best” attitude. The networking here is also top notch. Yes, it’s a city, but with how easy it is to network with others makes it feel like a smaller community. What would I change about Austin? The heat and traffic. If we could keep the high at 90 and smooth-sailing traffic, my love for Austin would grow even more.
LiveMom: What’s one piece of unsolicited advice you’d give to a new mom?
Stephanie: Listen to be polite, but listen to your heart first before others. I think as moms we like to feel like we are helping others out by giving advice about how things should be done with children or sharing what has worked for them. However, while it’s great to hear that advice, I’ve made sure to see what I feel is best for my child. You are the one that knows them better than anyone else and every child is different. It’s fun to chat about our children, but sometimes for new moms you can see their eyes start to get bigger and bigger as the advice rolls in. Maybe whisper later to them that they will know exactly what to do and that you know they will make a great mom.
LiveMom: What is the best thing one mom can do for another?
Stephanie: Listen. We all have good and bad days and sometimes there just needs for someone to be there to listen and talk to. While listening, push the judgement aside. We are all in this together and we all make better people when we support each other and help as much as possible. Strong moms, strong kids!
LiveMom: What kind of music do you like? Any local musicians? Kids musicians?
Stephanie: I’m somewhat all over the place when it comes to music. One of the great reasons why I love using Spotify so much. They have perfect playlists for all types of moods, genres, and more. Leave the music to them and I’m always finding something new. My kids love to listen to Veggie Tales Silly Songs. In fact, I sing right along with them and find myself laughing the whole time.
LiveMom: What’s the best way to keep up with what you are up to next?
Stephanie: My website is always showing new videos, posts, upcoming events and more. However, my favorite spot to be is YouTube! New videos that cover new tech, websites, apps, and more that help us all manage our lives are released weekly!
LiveMom: What might we be surprised to learn about you?
Stephanie: I’m a sucker for the piano… I took lessons starting from Kindergarten through high school and still continue to play. Maybe not as much as I would like, but now that we have a piano in the house, it’s a fun pastime to go in and play. Showing my boys what it’s like to play an instrument is something I would like to pass along. I come from a very musical family and I’ve noticed they have it in them as well. Hopefully they will be trying the piano soon!
LiveMom: What is your job, what is your title, and what do you love about your job?
Stephanie: During the day I work at Rivet where we help brands leverage customer stories to drive revenue through our storytelling platform. At Rivet, I’m a Customer Success Manager so I work with our clients to get them set up in the platform, assist with their campaigns, and continue to review their results. We partner with many global brands, so there is always something exciting happening. In the evening when my boys are in bed, I start working on my website, film videos, develop presentations for speaking and media events, etc. Filming has to be one of my favorite things to do and new videos come out every Wednesday. I travel to speak on topics such as content marketing, personal branding, video marketing, and more. Keeps me on my toes, but it’s fun to be on the go!
LiveMom: Do you have any charitable organizations you like to work with/ donate to/ volunteer for locally?
Stephanie: We do have two favorites including Superhero Kids and the National Down Syndrome Society.
LiveMom: What is your secret talent?
Stephanie: As mentioned earlier, I play the piano and oboe. Being able to share that talent with others is something they typically don’t expect!
