Give Back: Austin Diaper Bank

Give Back

We are thankful to live in such a fabulous place. How can we make sure it stays that way? We’ll be bringing you ideas on how you can help our fellow Austinites all year long in our Give Back series.

Last week, we talked about food. This week, we’ll talk about something moms are very familiar with: diapers. When then-new-mom Beverly Hamilton read this article in 2013, she learned that federal assistance programs do not cover diapers, which cost about $100 a month. Three million children live in poverty in the United States, so it would take 6.57 billion (yes, you read that right: billion) diapers to keep these children clean and dry. She decided she had to do something to make sure all parents have access to diapers for their children and that all seniors who need them have them, so she started the Austin Diaper Bank.

The Austin Diaper Bank collects any sized diapers and distributes them to social service agencies. Since 2013, the Diaper Bank has distributed over 300,000 diapers. How can you help?
