GIVEAWAY: Justin Jones at Lambert’s, 4/13

For those of you who prefer to stay far away from the action during ACL and SXSW, we understand. The crowds, the parking, the….scene of it all can look far less appealing than curling up with a book or catching up on your Netflix queue after the kids are in bed.

Although these huge festivals are a great way to get introduced to new bands, as many of us become parents, we forget that Austin is the Live Music Capitol of the World the other three hundred fifty-odd days of the year.

With a more concerted effort on my part after the most recent ACL and South By, I’m determined to catch some of the bands I saw (and didn’t see) outside of the festivals.

One musician we did meet up with at ACL in the fall was Justin Jones, who is based out of the DC area but got his start at open mics in Charlottesville, Virginia. Although it’s always hard to fit a musician neatly inside a box, Americana seems to fit. We had the chance to meet Justin in between his sets on the BMI stage and Austin Kiddie Limits in the fall. What struck me was how thoughtful he was, not just about the music scene and touring, but also about the realities of a life on the road with two little girls. He was quick to thank his wife for all the work she does to “hold down the fort” while he is touring and was clearly looking forward to the chance to see his girls again.

Justin was originally set to perform earlier in the spring but broke a rib and had to reschedule (ouch!) His Austin tour date will be one of his last on his I Can Feel It tour, before he heads back to the studio. He’s been writing a tour diary at Made of Chalk, where he talks about the challenges of being a musician today and his daughter’s reaction to his leaving for work.

Trish and I are looking forward to enjoying the yummy food at Lambert’s, hearing Justin’s new songs and catching a show outside of the madness of Austin’s two music festivals. We hope you might be able to join us! You can enter the giveaway below or buy tickets through the link below.

  1. Younger lambs are smaller and more tender. Mutton is meat from a sheep over two years old, and has less tender flesh. In general, the darker the colour, the older the animal. Baby lamb meat will be pale pink, while regular lamb is pinkish-red.^..”
