Ladies, Treat Yourselves: GIVEAWAY

IMG_0214

No matter what your marital or parental or job status is, you are working your butt off. Every. Single. Day. When was the last time you did something just for you? Not your kids, not your boss, not your significant other, not your pet, but for you? Chances are, it’s been too long for you to answer this. I’m here to help.

If you took just a little bit of time for yourself, your entire health and well-being will improve. Whether it’s exercising, a spa treatment or a cupcake, just doing that one little thing for yourself will do wonders for your whole self.

What would you do if you had an entire day to yourself in Austin? Pretend money is no object and take a journey with me for your very own Treat Yourself Day. And with Mother’s Day coming up, any of these places would make a wonderful gift for your favorite special lady.

I would start by sleeping in. As much as I would love to stay in a fancy hotel like San Jose or the Driskill, I love my own bed and would just once like to sleep past 8 am. Once I wake up, I’ll walk over to Thunderbird and enjoy one of the best lattes around. I’d throw in a TacoDeli taco for good measure. While at Thunderbird, I would either browse Facebook on my phone, maybe bring a book or – GASP! – just sit there and enjoy my coffee and taco. After a leisurely stroll home, getting my daily exercise in, I’d get ready for the next part of Treat Yourself Day: spa time!

I can’t decide if I want a massage, facial, manicure or pedicure so I’ll commit to getting all of them. There are many spas around town that can make this happen. milk+honey, Viva Day Spa, Halina European Spa and Hiatus Spa + Retreat. But if you’d rather just do a treatment here or there, I would recommend a facial at Bradz – ask for Suzy – and a mani/pedi at Embellish.

After all of that pampering, you need to eat! My favorite spot to have lunch as a treat is Epicerie. It’s the perfect spot to meet some girlfriends and day-drink a glass of wine or three. La Condesa and Easy Tiger are also great options.

After lunch just might be the perfect time for the ultimate Treat Yo indulgence: a nap. When was the last time you took a nap when you weren’t sick? Nobody is home to bother you and you can lounge luxuriously in bed. If you’re not sleepy, go ahead and binge on all of the shows your friends are watching like Bloodline, Orphan Black or get caught up on Mad Men.

Once 5pm rolls around, it’s time to plan dinner. Since you’ve been by yourself the whole day, you might be craving some company. Arrange for a sitter and take your main squeeze out to one of the restaurants that your much-younger co-workers always rave about. Qui, Olamie, Jacoby’s, Fixe, Odd Duck, Foreign & Domestic all come to mind. But save some room, because nothing caps of Treat Yourself Day like the ultimate treat: a piping hot donut with all the trimmings from Gourdough’s. My fave is the The Puddin.

This barely scratches the surface of all of the wonderful things you could do for yourself in a day, right here in Austin. So, go on, do it! You deserve it.
