The LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER show is in its 6th year in Austin, and will be live on stage May 7, 2016 at the AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center.
LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER is a national series of locally-produced shows in which local writers, bloggers, and authors take the stage to share their writing about motherhood and all of the various emotions that go along with it. Men, women, and teenagers are welcome to submit a story via the site.
“Everybody has a mother story,” says LTYM co-producer Leigh Ann Torres, “LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER aims to include all aspects.”
The team confirms that being a mother is not a requirement to be in the show. Examples, just to name a few, are stories:
~ By women who are non-moms by choice (Why did you make that decision? Tell us stories about how people react to you, or how you feel now: regrets or no? What do you love/what drives you crazy about your mom friends?)
~ By women who aren’t moms yet, for whatever reason (What kind of mom do you hope to be? Do you have fears about conceiving or mothering? Are you struggling with infertility?)
~ By women who put their kids up for adoption (How did you make that decision? How does that decision affect your life now?)
~ By men (Tell us about your mom. Tell us about how your wife mothers the kids.)
“These are just a few examples, and we know there are myriad ways to tell a story about motherhood,” says Torres. “Each story adds invaluable richness and diversity to the LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER playlist, and those of us who are producing and directing love them for their different perspectives.”
Ten percent of all ticket proceeds will benefit the locally based Austin SafePlace, which provides provides safety and support for individuals and families affected by sexual and domestic violence. In the past we have supported organizations such as Hope Alliance, Hand to Hold, and Any Baby Can.
Do you have a story to tell about your mother, or about motherhood? Don’t forget to submit by January 31 at the LISTEN TO YOUR MOTHER Austin site.
