Brunches on Sunday, May 10th
I think nearly every restaurant in Austin is hosting a special Mother’s Day Brunch. I’m exaggerating, of course, but seriously, there are a ton of Mother’s Day Brunch options to choose from. We’ve picked a few of our favorites and some that look delicious, fun, or that are offering kids eat free or cheap drinks. If you have a favorite restaurant that you don’t see here on this list, be sure to call or check their website for brunch details as we have not covered the Mother’s Day Brunch scene extensively.
The Sound of Music Mother’s Day Brunch Feast at Alamo Drafthouse (Slaughter Lane)- 11:45 a.m. How do you solve a problem like Mother’s Day? You want your mom to feel special, but all of the usual gifts just won’t cut it. Well, say so long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, adieu to this problem, because we’ve got you covered with our Mother’s Day Brunch screening of The Sound of Music. This classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical features all of your mom’s favorite things, including gorgeous scenery, adorable children, wonderful songs and a swoon-worthy romance. Winner of five Academy Awards, including Best Picture, The Sound of Music remains a soaring, inspiring film that everyone can enjoy, whether you’re sixteen going on seventeen or sixteen going on sixty. Plus, watching Maria (the luminous Julie Andrews) wrangle seven children will certainly give you a new appreciation for your mother. A special brunch menu and wine pairings will be offered to accompany the film.
Southwest Bistro – Hyatt Downtown on the Lake- 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Mother’s Day buffet with complimentary Champagne and seven buffet stations, antipasto, salads, seafood, breakfast, carving, hot entrée and dessert, plus special children’s buffet. Reservations recommended. $62.00 for Adults, $30 Children 12 and under.
Champagne Brunch at Finn & Porter- 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., A five course meal with selections Jumbo Lump Crab Cake Benedict, Artisanal Cheese Board, and a Baked Pancake with Mascarpone Cheese and Macerated strawberries. Cost: $55.
Manuel’s Sunday Brunch- $2 Mimosas and fresh tres leches cake while it lasts! There will also be live music from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Manuel’s two locations included.
Searsucker- $35, 3-course, prix-fixe brunch menu with kids 10 and under eating free!
Mother’s Day Crawfish Boil at Spiderhouse- Seems like a no-brainer. Throw together the best Texas traditions around: a good, old fashioned crawfish boil; Austin’s greatest country act and Mother’s Day. From 3pm-6pm on Sunday, May 10, Spider House is proud to present our first Mother’s Day Crawfish Boil, featuring Mike and the Moonpies. Piping hot crawfish will be dished out at $12 per 3lb plate while it lasts, so come early. The event is free for everyone to attend and is all ages, so grown up kids can invite their mamas and mamas can invite their young’ns. Dancing is not mandatory, but dancing shoes (i.e. cowgirl boots) are advised.
Omni Barton Creek- 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The culinary team has created a special Mother’s Day menu full of the freshest fruits, vegetables, salads and seafood, and features chocolate dipped strawberries for Mom. Reservations are required: (512) 329-7906.
Sagra Mother’s Day Brunch Buffet- Includes a delicious assortment of food for $28.95 and $1 mimosas and bellinis.
Z Tejas (three locations)- Celebrate Mom with a from-scratch Southwestern meal! All Moms will receive a complimentary Chef’s Dessert as well as a family photo in a special Mother’s Day frame.
Reservations are required for most of the brunches so be sure to get those scheduled early as many fill up.
Barton Creek Square- Thursday, May 7, from 5-7 p.m., Moms and their friends can experience fashion tips and style consultations, beauty services, and delicious refreshments. Mothers who spend $200 the day of the event will receive fun wine accessories at Guest Services with proof of purchase. Banana Republic will also pull 3 event attendees to enjoy a complete style makeover. The American Heart Association will be on-site with information and their Survivor Gallery, and KIND will be handing out nutritious samples and encouraging event attendees to spread good vibes by writing a “KIND” note. The notes will be distributed at random throughout the mall.
Lakeline Mall- Thursday, May 7, from 5-7 p.m., Moms will enjoy makeovers, massages, giveaways, prizes, light bites, fashion show, styling tips and much more! Planning on shopping during the event? Spend $150 and walk away with a croc-embossed cosmetic bag, while supplies last. Moms can also enter to win one of five spa packages, valued at $500.
Afternoon Tea at The Driskill- Thursday, May 7, 2015 – Sunday, May 10, 2015. Celebrate the mother in your life throughout Mother’s Day weekend with The Driskill’s afternoon tea service. Seatings at 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. Cost: Adults $46, Children $23. Reservations Required.
Ballet Austin’s Swan Lake- Friday, May 8 at 8 p.m., Saturday, May 9 at 2 and 8 p.m. and Sunday, May 3 at 3 p.m. Join us Mother’s Day weekend for the exquisite and iconic classic… Swan Lake. It’s the timeless tale of love and loss on everyone’s “ballet bucket list.” Performing ballets on Mother’s day weekend has become a Ballet Austin tradition, and offers everyone a unique and special way to spend Mother’s day. The Opening Night in Black & White takes place Friday May 8, from 6-11 p.m. Pick a color and show your true nature at the official kick-off to Ballet Austin’s production of the world’s most famous ballet, Swan Lake. Dress in black, or white-or both-and help us celebrate the end of our magical 2014/15 Season! Come early, stay late and get your groove on, as Ballet Austin lights up the Long Center with a live DJ and luscious illuminations on the Terrace, a massive red carpet entry, specialty cocktails and black-and-white theming reminiscent of the iconic swans Odette and Odile.
Cheese is Love: A Mother’s Day Date Night at Antonelli’s Cheese House- Bring your favorite lady to enjoy shared composed cheeses plates, charcuterie boards, and assorted craft chocolates and other desserts, along with complimentary bubbles! In the past we’ve explored rebel mom, forbidden mom, the dark side of mothering, and more. This year’s “theme” is rants ‘n raves related to Mama! We have a fine bevy of readers planned, including Janelle Matous, Devorah Winegarten, Nettie Reynolds, Jennifer Hritz, and more more more…but PLEASE BRING your RANT and/or RAVE about Motherhood (yours or another’s) and share. High Tea for Mother- Sunday, May 10, from 1-5 p.m. Bring mom to Pioneer Farms to see how Texans celebrated the day more than a century ago- and to see the gorgeous wildflowers in bloom. A special “Sunday Afternoon Social”program will be a part of this special event. The event will feature a special Victorian-era high tea at our 1886 Cotton Planter’s Farm. Mother’s Day at the Capitol- Sunday, May 10, from 7-8 p.m.What better way to close out a great day with Mom than by taking her to a free concert at the Texas State Capitol in her honor? The band will perform well-known tunes, including marches and musical numbers, that you and your Mom are sure to enjoy! Get there early to select the best seating… this concert gets more popular every year. Texas State Capitol South Steps, 1100 Congress Avenue.
Blanton Museum of Art Drop-in Public Tour, Special Themed Tour: Mother’s Day- Sunday, May 10, from 3-4 p.m., This is special-themed tour celebrating Mother’s Day. A designed tour to celebrate motherhood (and grandmotherhood), care-giving, children and family, and more. Free with museum admission.
Moms Skate FREE at Playland Skate Center- Playland Skate Center will be celebrating moms during our Sunday session from 12 noon to 5pm. Admission for moms is free with a paid child’s admission. Make it a family event or a special outing for mom and kids! Either way, it’s going to be great because mom doesn’t have to pay and she’ll get to spend time with her loved ones roller skating. As an added bonus, the little ones can play in the soft play indoor playground!
Afternoon High Tea at Cafe Ruckus- Sunday, May 10 at 11 a.m., 1:30 and 4:00 p.m. The special tradition of taking afternoon tea continues in the heart of downtown Austin. Tea time happens every Sunday afternoon when Cafe Ruckus transforms into a Victorian tea room. Step back in time as you sip bottomless cups of loose leaf tea, nibble on delicate finger sandwiches and indulge in decadent desserts presented on a three-tiered server.
