Painting with a Twist

I like to fancy myself an artist sometimes; I nearly majored in fine arts in college and then realized that my talent was not strong enough to provide even a meager existence. So I took up painting with words instead. In the meantime, there are places like Painting with a Twist to satisfy my art cravings, which is a perfect place for me to pick up a paint brush for a relaxing activity.

The Cedar Park Painting with a Twist studio is welcoming and bright, and paper plates, plastic cups, and napkins are provided on tables throughout the venue. Guests bring their own food and drink, from a bottle of water and a bag of chips to a full-out party menu. PWT is a BYOB venue, by the way (adult beverages limited to beer and wine or a premix margarita-type beverage).

Girls’ night out and date night are popular at Painting with a Twist, and the owners say that no painting experience is necessary. In fact, the instructors are helpful and funny, and they offer general, simple guidelines for creating a painting much like the sample model on display (although you’re free to create your own Matisse, should you be inspired to go rogue). The studio provides acrylic paints, brushes, and a 16×20-inch canvas, and classes are available nearly every day.

If you have a child who is interested in art, this is a fun place to go to create a project together. One-and-a-half- to two-hour classes are offered for all ages throughout the month, and they also offer homeschooling days with painting and crafts. The online calendar for each location details the painting for each day, as well as any age parameters.

For summer birthday parties, when it’s hotter than you can stand outside, Painting with a Twist offers a variety of party options, with packages called (aptly) the Van Gogh, the Picasso, and the Rembrandt. Parties range from two and a half to four hours, and includes use of the large party room within the facility. Kid parties are available any day or evening of the week, except Friday & Saturday nights.

Painting with a Twist is also offering summer camps, with the option to sign up for one day or a full week. Campers will be painting and crafting while on site.
