Pie night is coming up at Casa Catherine this Wednesday in preparation for Thanksgiving. While the tradition in my household is to make the pies the night before, there have been years past when I opt for store or bakery bought pies, especially years when there is just too much going on to cram in a baking session. In case you are having one of those years where you just can’t crank out the homemade pies, order your pumpkin and pecan pies from Blue Baker, a local bakery in the Arboretum area! In addition to the pies, you can also order other seasonal delights such as Cranberry Orange Nut Sweetbread, Pumpkin Sweetbread, Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies or Cranberry Oatmeal Cookies.
One catch: You have to pre-order the pies by Sunday, November 18, 2012. You can either call the store at (512) 346-2583 or stop in (and use that as an excuse to eat there!). Use this order form to see all of your delicious options. Pre-ordered treats can include breakfast items (bagels, chocolate croissants, pumpkin muffins, cinnamon bun), dinner items (sourdough bread, focaccia, baguette), or dessert (pumpkin pie, pecan pie, cranberry orange nut sweetbread). Orders will be available for pickup on November 20 or November 21, from 7 a.m. – 10 p.m.
Want to taste the pies before ordering? Blue Baker will be at the Great Hill Open Air Market on Sunday, November 18, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. with FREE pie samples! You can also pre-order right there at the market, which is located in The Arboretum parking lot, just across from Blue Baker.
If you’re looking for more deals on baked goods, Blue Baker offers daily rotating specials. Check out the specials for November and December.
In other news, Blue Baker is offering the unique opportunity for families to learn sophisticated icing techniques from the store’s Bakery Manager at two special Holiday Baking Classes where you can learn how to make iced sugar cookies like a pro!. On Saturday, December 8, 2012 and Saturday, December 15, 2012, from 3 – 5 p.m., children age 7 and up and their adults are invited to participate in these fun, hands-on classes. Each person will leave with a dozen decorated sugar cookies in holiday packaging, to gift or to gobble, and a yummy sugar cookie recipe!
There are only 12 spots available for each class, so be sure to register soon. The class is $100 per person, which includes a $10 gift certificate for Blue Baker’s baked goods. To reserve your spot(s), simply email Sarah Sagebiel at firstname.lastname@example.org and let her know your preferred class date.
Would you like to win a spot in one of the classes? Blue Baker has generously donated one spot for each Holiday Baking Class! Head on over to Free Fun in Austin for a chance to win!
