School’s Out for Summer

It’s fast approaching… the last day of school. Are you prepared? Not for the long summer ahead. Are you prepared to hand out gifts to the teacher or teachers- yep, all six of ‘em! Nikki has an excellent question. She emails:

My son is finishing out his last few days of school as a sixth grader. We used to go all out and buy his teacher in elementary school a really nice gift. It hit me earlier this week that he has many more teachers now that he’s in middle school and now we have to dish out some real money to make all of them feel appreciated. I’ve been trying to think about what to get each of them and am at a loss. I seriously don’t want to spend that much money. I also don’t want to spend the day baking cookies. Is there anything you can recommend as a nice gift that lets each and every one of them know that they are special?  Would it be wrong to get a nicer, more expensive gift for his two favorites and give something smaller to the lesser favorites? 1. Personally I think the teachers have come to expect these end of the year gifts and it’s more of a requiremnt now. It makes me upset and so I just write a personal note to all of them at the end of the year thanking them for their hard work and include my children in on the note writing too.

If one of my kids has had a really great teacher, we try to spoil them throughout the year. Keeps the element of surprise there and makes them feel really good because they didn’t expect it.
