Special Feature: Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band

Lucky Diaz and Alisha Gaddis by Matt Harbricht

Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band, a husband-wife duo and Latin GRAMMY winner, will celebrate the release of their Greatest Hits CD on the 2016 ACL Kiddie Limits stage. Performing bi-lingual music for kids of all ages, Lucky Diaz and Alisha Gaddis have an ability to engage the youngest to the  oldest in the crowd with their hip-shaking indie-pop tunes.

We’ve been lucky enough to have Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band perform at many LiveMom Family Concerts in the past, and we were thrilled to have a chance to ask them some questions about the band and their upcoming stop in Austin. With seven award-winning family music albums, plus singles that regularly soar to the top of radio playlists nationwide, Lucky Diaz and the Family Jam Band is a must-see for families attending ACL this year.

LM: What has been the most exciting gig you’ve performed so far?

Lucky Diaz & the Family Jam Band: I think it would have to be when we performed on the National Mall in Washington, DC. To perform in the midst of the energy and history in our nation’s capitol was an honor and delight.

LM: Who is a fan of your music that you never expected to have?

Lucky Diaz & the Family Jam Band: Because we live in Los Angeles, we have a lot of celebrities who are fans of what we do. Their little kids may not realize that their mom is a blockbuster star- but they sure think Lishy Lou and Lucky Too are a big deal. It is so funny!

LM: What do you love about performing in Austin?

Lucky Diaz & the Family Jam Band: Austin is a music town. It oozes an effortless cool and electric pulse. We get to be a part of that huge tidal wave of creativity. That is pretty incredible.

LM: What are your some of your favorite songs that are not kids’ music?

Lucky Diaz & the Family Jam Band: (Lucky) Anything by the Beatles, Beach Boy, B52s. (Alisha) Anything that Edith Piaf, Ethel Merman or Erykah Badu sings (the good thing about being married is that you don’t have to agree on EVERYTHING!).

LM: What is the best thing about being a musician for children?Advertisement
Lucky Diaz & the Family Jam Band: The best thing about being a musician for children is you get to affect an entire familiar experience. You are welcomed into a home and get to laugh, dance, and grow with an entire family.

LM: What’s your favorite restaurant in Austin?

Lucky Diaz & the Family Jam Band: Laundrette and the Odd Duck. Man, Austin does great food. We have a list to hit up a mile long!

LM: Will you be performing any other shows while you’re here in Austin?

Lucky Diaz & the Family Jam Band: Nope. Just ACL. But we plan on SEEING so much. Time for some creative intake with fine artists everywhere.

LM: Besides being at the festival, what else do you like to do when you’re in Austin?

Lucky Diaz & the Family Jam Band: We love to vintage shop. Dive down to Gruene Dance Hall and have some beers, head down to Lucky’s parents ranch outside of San Antonio, eat and eat some more- and of course- buy new cowboy hats.
