Austin-based Creative Side Jewelry Academy hosts Young Metalsmiths this spring with a three day camp.
The Young Metalsmiths Spring Break Camp, led by a professional artist and educator, provides a safe and creative environment where kids, ages 10-15, get hands-on instruction in a professional jewelry studio while learning the basics of metalsmithing. Students will learn sawing, riveting, filing, hammering, drilling, and much more. They will complete rings and a pendant. Students will create multiple pieces throughout the week including a pendant, silver rings, and more. This is a great opportunity to get creative and make new friends in the process!
In addition to working in a creative environment, the advantages for students in creating jewelry includes hand-eye coordination, strengthening their artistic voice, and developing knowledge in subjects such as geometry, chemistry, metal fabrication and engineering.
Creative Side Jewelry Academy is one of the most highly acclaimed jewelry studios and teaching facilities in America. They are proud to host nationally and internationally renowned jewelry artists, experts and technicians to teach at their Ben White Boulevard location. By adding the Young Metalsmiths program into their mix of classes, they fill a gap that is often missing in youth art programs.
The 2017 Young Metalsmiths Spring Break Camp dates are 3/13 – 3/15, from 10am – 2 pm. You are invited to tour the studio in person and see the wonderful work being created.
