I used to give my husband a hard time because he insisted that we only use glass and not any plastic for eating and drinking. He insisted that it made things taste better than eating off of plastic. I would kid around with him and call him a snob. But, now I am listening. I have always known about a chemical called Bisphenol-A that leaks from plastic, especially when heated. So, when I was pregnant with my second child, my husband insisted that we buy some glass bottles. We made a trip to Germany when I was pregnant to visit my husbands family and we bought some glass bottles for the baby. They were relatively easy to buy there. We found ours in a specialty store that sold baby and children’s items and the next day I found more in a store similar to a Walgreens. I had a nice chuckle to myself, remembering a comment from an old friend of mine about how we would have to use glass bottles if we ever had a baby and here I was buying glass bottles of all things.

I had the baby and was planning on breastfeeding, so I thought that there wouldn’t be a need for more than a couple of bottles. Much to my dismay, I was not able to breastfeed due to problems out of my control and ended up pumping and needing to use bottles. So, here begins my search for more glass bottles. They are not so easy to find in America and when you are wiped out with a new baby, the last thing you feel like doing is spending hours searching for the perfect bottle. I wanted convenience, something I could buy at the local grocery store and not have to spend my precious, sleep deprived time searching for the perfect bottle . We ended up buying Avent bottles and using those when the glass ones were dirty. After reading some recent reports on www.EWG.org, I threw out the rest of the plastic bottles and bought another glass one. My daughter only takes two bottles a day now and I am beginning the search for BPA free sippy cups.

Recently I stumbled into Wildflower Organics and found a cool product to feature. GLASS BOTTLES, easily available. They also started to carry Born Free glass bottles at Whole Foods, although I found out that these shatter easily when dropped. So, if you are looking for glass bottles as an alternative to potentially harmful plastic ones, try weego by Baby Life. You can order them online at www.gobabylife.com for $18 or shop locally at Wildflower Organics, also available for $18. If anyone has any suggestions on where to find sippy cups that are not made from plastic, let us know.
