Have you been wanting to buy a new refrigerator because your old one is just too stinky? Your dishwasher is on it’s last leg and you just can’t imagine having to do all of those dishes by hand. Well, wait no longer. Texas is offering an opportunity to purchase appliances over Memorial Day Weekend (May 24-26) without paying tax! From MSNBC:
The sales tax holiday includes Energy Star products such as air conditioners less than $6,000, clothes washers, dishwashers, refrigerators less than $2,000, programmable thermostats, dehumidifiers, ceiling fans, and incandescent and fluorescent light bulbs. The tax break does not include clothes dryers.
Wondering what to do with your old appliances once the new, energy efficient ones have arrived?
The City of Austin Diversion Recycling Center recycles appliances, with the exception of microwaves and televisions. They accept these items free of charge.
Austin Energy actually pays you to get rid of your old refrigerator- although it must be in working condition!
Do you know of any other facilities that take old appliances to be recycled? How about for the people living in the burbs- any north or south locations out there to save on the cost of gas?
