It’s that time of year again! No, not Austin’s version of a monsoon season. No, not the six weeks of the year you actually get to wear that jacket you’ve always loved. No, not time to wonder how much of the new green stuff growing on your lawn actually counts as grass.
No, none of that. It’s cake show season! The last weekend of February is always the “That Takes the Cake!” Sugar Arts show, one of the largest cake shows in the country, featuring hundreds of spectacular works of edible art, classes, demonstrations, vendors, and a kids’ area where folks of all ages can decorate their own cupcakes and cookies.
This year’s show theme is “Cake-A-Lot: Knights of the Turn Table”. More loosely termed “Renaissance,” we’ve been inviting decorators to bring massive, gorgeous show cakes inspired by anything from the reigns of Kings and Queens, Da Vinci’s incredible inventions, Shakespeare’s famous plays, to fantastical dragons and fairies. We’re hoping for both the campy and kitschy as well as realistic and dramatic. As always there’ll be hundreds of divisional entries outside of the theme as well.
Last year I waxed poetic about the virtues of cake and family. This year I’m going to skip right to the good stuff: a single-day ticket giveaway!
Capital Confectioners – the local cake club that runs the “That Takes the Cake!” Sugar Arts Show – is offering two single-day adult passes to the show to be drawn by the LiveMom team. Why no kid passes? Because they don’t need any! Kids under 18 get in free! How’s that for a great value for large families?
