Central Market North LamarLive music, and dancing, oh my!  This is a great spot for parents to enjoy music while letting their kids burn some energy on the playground.  There are also ducks to feed in the nearby pond.  Here is the lineup of FREE entertainment:

  • Saturday, 6:30- 9:00pm White Ghost Shivers- The Shivers are a seven-piece band, with an accordion, upright bass, banjo, trumpet, clarinet, violin, guitar. The music is an insane collision of ragtime, jazz, swing, bluegrass, cabaret, vaudeville, burlesque. This band goes to great lengths to make sure the audience has fun!

54th Annual Zilker Summer Musical: The Sound of Music- An Austin summer tradition is back again this year with The Sound of Music! Bring blankets and settle down at dusk (approx. 8:30pm) every Thursday through Sunday until August 11th for FREE!! Beverley S. Food-Free Family Storytime-The Round Rock Public Library presents Food-Free Family Storytime, a reading activity that welcomes families with children of all ages to a fun environment that’s safe for individuals affected by food allergies.This interactive program includes a variety of activities such as books, fingerplays, music, movies, and puppets. FREE!! Family Nature Quest- Come to the park for a fun family hike as a naturalist guides you along one of our many beautiful trails. We’ll bring together a unique blend of natural history to describe how water conservation and land stewardship is vital to the animal, plant and human life along its banks. After your hike, visit McKinney Roughs’ interactive exhibits and enjoy a nature craft or borrow a trail pack and take the kids outside to enjoy one of our self-guided nature scavenger hunts together. Bring a picnic lunch, and make it a nature day! Hike is limited to the first 20 participants and is designed to include families with children of all ages. Jack and the Beanstalk- Another Scottish Rite World Premiere Production! Fresh from the acclaimed “Three Little Pigs” rock musical, director Susan Gayle Todd returns with another innovative update of a classic kids’ tale. Tickets: $8.50 adults, $6.50kids. Home Depot Kids Workshop- FREE hands-on workshops designed for children ages 5 – 12. Workshops teach children do-it-yourself skills, tool safety and instill a sense of pride and accomplishment. A Year With Frog and Toad- Summer Stock Austin re-mounts B Iden Payne winner for Best Play for Youth 2011. Arnold Lobel’s amphibian friends are brought to life with verve and heart. Hartman Concert in the Park – In its tenth summer season, these FREE ensemble concerts take place in the Hartman Concert Park in front of the Long Center City Terrace and run on Sunday evenings through August 26th at 7:30 p.m. Each Sunday a different ensemble of the Austin Symphony will be featured.  This Sunday, it will be strings. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner and blanket and make it a group outing. Sunday, 7:30pm. The Flying Theatre Machine: Fairly Silly Tales- Sundays at the Hideout, Flying Theater Machine presents kid-oriented improv right here in Austin. Mars Landing Party- This weekend, we are Landing on Mars!  Join Austin Planetarium and the non-profit Explore Mars at ND Studios in East Austin on Sunday afternoon, to celebrate the landing of NASA’s Curiosity Rover.  On Sunday, August 5, 2012, from 4-7 p.m., Austin families are invited to enjoy fun Science activities, including the Austin Planetarium’s mobile planetarium.
