Architects of Air-  The Exxopolis luminarium is a stunning sculpture that people enter to be moved to a sense of wonder at the beauty of light and color. Vivid reflections of liquid color spill across the curved walls creating a world apart from the normal and everyday. Since 1992, over 2 million visitors in 37 countries across five continents have immersed themselves in the spectacular, luminous world of Architects of Air.. January 19-27, 2013. Octavitas Celebration- Join us for Octavitas, one the last celebrations of the Puerto Rican holiday season. Bring your dancing shoes, this joyful afternoon will feature dancing for all, a Parranda sing-along, and performances by Puerto Rican Folkloric Dance! Los Reyes Magos will make a special appearance at the Octavitas Celebration to honor someone who has made a significant contribution to our Central Texas community. Bring the children, because Los Reyes always travel bearing gifts! This year’s honorees are from our sister cities of San Antonio and Killeen: Reyna Martinez, President, Sociedad Cultural Hispanoamericana, Killeen, Texas and Migdalia Aponte, President, Association of Puerto Ricans in San Antonio (APRISA). This FREE celebration will take place on Sunday, January 20, 2013, 2-5pm, at the Puerto Rican Folkloric Dance & Cultural Center, 701 Tillery Street, in Austin, Texas 78702. Our center is located in the very back of the building, steps away from free parking.
Afternoon in the Garden: Forts and Faerie Homes- Create a hidden space in the Garden using natural materials. Learn about structure and construction. FREE with regular admission to gardens ($1 for children ages 3-12; $2 for adults ages 13-61; $1 for seniors age 62 & over.). Sunday, noon- 4:00pm. Zilker Botanical Garden, 2220 Barton Springs Road.

Bonus Monday Events:

MLK March and Celebration- The Annual Community March celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy while uplifting diversity and multi-culturalism in our city. The MLK Community March kicks off on Monday, January 21, 2013 at 9 a.m.with a short program at the MLK Statue on the University of Texas campus. We will then march to the south steps of the State Capitol for Gospel music performed by Sweet Home Baptist Church Choir and marchers will continue on to the historic Huston-Tillotson University, where exciting activities are planned. All businesses, non-profit organizations and individuals are invited to march and celebrate Dr. King’s legacy. The MLK Community Festival kicks off as soon the march arrives on location and will last until 3 p.m.; it will include all types of vendors and local musical artists to make this year’s celebration the best ever!

Joe McDermott Concert- Are you out of school on Martin Luther King Jr. Day? Then come on by to play your air guitar at this FREE concert by Joe McDermott, Austin-based award-winning children’s singer!Monday, 11:00am. FREE!! Brilliant Sky Toys and Books, 701 Capital of Texas Hwy Suite D 480.

Igudesman & Joo: A Little Nightmare Music- This unique show is full of virtuosity music and zany, outrageous humor from Russian violinist Igudesman and Korean/British pianist Joo. Igudesman & Joo are the new kings of classical music comedy and with 30 million hits on YouTube, they’ve become a viral sensation! Now they’re conquering concert halls around the country! Monday, January 21, 2013 at 7:00pm. Geared towards kids 15 years and older. The Long Center for Performing Arts, 701 West Riverside Drive.

Central Market North Lamar– Live music and dancing, oh my!  This is a great spot for parents to enjoy music while letting their kids burn some energy on the playground.  There are also ducks to feed in the nearby pond.  Fridays and Saturdays from 6:30- 9:00pm. Central Market, North Lamar Blvd.

Craft Time for Kids- Bring the kids to get crafty. The crafts change weekly and usually are themed for particular holidays or seasons. FREE!! Saturday, 11:00am- 3:00pm. Lakeshore Learning Center, 9828 Great Hills Trail.

Food-Free Family Storytime-The Round Rock Public Library presents Food-Free Family Storytime, a reading activity that welcomes families with children of all ages to a fun environment that’s safe for individuals affected by food allergies.This interactive program includes a variety of activities such as books, fingerplays, music, movies, and puppets. FREE!! Saturday, 10:30. The Round Rock Public Library, 216 E. Main Street, Round Rock.

BookKids Storytime- Join the wonderful staff at BookPeople as they entertain your kiddos with stories, crafts, guest storytellers, and sometimes even puppets! Saturday mornings at 11:30am. FREE!! BookPeople, 603 N. Lamar Blvd.

What’s the Story Steve?– Move Your Tale and ColdTowne Theater collaborate to present this fully improvised theatrical journey through a story of the audience’s making. Featuring Steve the improvising poodle, a portion of the show follows Steve through an original tale. Pay what you wish. Appropriate for audiences of all ages. A return to MYT’s classic event structure, kids will join us on the stage for the entire event, providing sound effects, characters and settings for for every story. This is a chance to create original tales, and to perform them right away! Saturday at 10 a.m. ColdTowne Theater, 4803 Airport Blvd.

Storytime- A weekend storytime for families with kids of all ages. (Circus Chickendog performs on January 19th) FREE!! Saturday, 11:00am. Wells Branch Community Library, 15001 Wells Port Drive.

Flying Theater Machine: Snowball Fight- Sundays at the Hideout, Flying Theater Machine presents kid-oriented improv right here in Austin. The audience will help us with suggestions and sound effects, and a few lucky kids will even get to join us on stage. Sunday, 2:00pm.Tickets: $8. The Hideout Theater, 617 Congress Ave.

Whole Foods Kids’ Club - Hey kids, stop by and check out what’s going on at Kid’s Club. Each week we have an exciting activity that will let you play with your food plus learn a couple things along the way. FREE!! Sunday, 1:00pm. Whole Foods Market, 525 N. Lamar.
