Curious George and Furious George Goes Bananas Storytime- It’s the birthday of H.A. Rey, creator of the beloved, mischievous monkey, Curious George. Community Health Fair and One Year Anniversary Celebration- To help inspire wellness in the community, Seton Medical Ccenter will provide free screenings (vascular, blood pressure, blood glucose, carparal tunnel and asthma), kids’ activities, educational information, entertainment and refreshments. BookDrive- Join us today for a special storytime/book drive for a good cause. Catherine’s parents started the endowment after they lost their 5 year old daughter last year to complications from the H1N1 flu. Catherine loved to read books. She loved to read about the ocean, princesses and far away lands. She dreamed of all of the places that she would travel to in her lifetime. Come to storytime this morning for stories from some of our favorite local authors and to talk about which books make you feel better when you read them. Then stick around and shop for books to donate to the Dell Children’s Medical Center library. BookKids staff members will be on hand to help with any selection questions you may have. FREE!! Up the Chisholm Trail- Participate in a kid and adult cook off, kid’s activities, a cowboy shoot out, cowboy breakfast, chuckwagon dinner, pony rides, live music and more! Friday and Saturday. Whole Foods 30th Birthday Celebration- Join us in front of the store for a day of celebration! FREE festivities begin at Noon with locally-made treats from over 40 of our local producers! Kids Night Out (Ages 6 wks. – 14 yrs.): Every other Saturday of each month, our Y staff hosts an evening of fun for your children, while you have an evening to fulfill other obligations or simply to call your own! Harvest Moon Festival- This festival will feature Asian and Pacific Rim cultural performances and martial arts demonstrations, as well as a moonwalk and activities for the entire family. Taste North Austin- For $20, you can taste food from many local restaurants. It’s a family-friendly event with a FREE performance by Austin’s own, The Biscuit Brothers! They have two performances scheduled at 11:00am and 1:00pm.Kids can decorate their own chef hat, make a sand art bracelet, craft a beaded key chain, and get their face painted! The Cat in the Hat Special Event- Filled with both adventure and silliness, THE CAT IN THE HAT KNOWS A LOT ABOUT THAT!, based on the acclaimed The Cat in the Hat’s Learning Library book series, will appeal to preschoolers’ natural curiosity, and engage them in the process of scientific exploration and discovery. CASA Superhero Run- A adult 5k/ Kid’s 1K race with lots of activities for the kids including arts and crafts, a moonwalk, superhero costume contest, a child I.D. program and more. Wildlife Habitat Expo- Join Boy Scout Troop 8787 and local experts to discover how easy it is to create a wildlife habitat in your own backyard! Learn the steps to needed to certify your yard as a wildlife habitat with the National Wildlife Federation by visiting informative educational booths. Explore the grounds on Habitat Walks at 1:00pm and 3:00pm. See urban wildlife at hands-on live animal presentations. Both the class and parking are FREE!! Light refreshments will be served.
