LiveMom is thrilled to be covering the Austin City Limits Music Festival for the fifth straight year. We have listened to all 140 bands and are your one-stop-shop for the biggest music event of the fall, whether you are taking the whole fam or using it as an excuse to get some adult time. Keep up with our coverage of this year’s festival here on LiveMom and over on Facebook, Twitter, our ACL 2014 Pinterest page and Instagram. We’ll be there Weekend One! You can even peruse our schedule.

We have listened to the music and may have learned a thing or two from attending ACL in the past, but one thing I stress about each year as the festival approaches is what to wear. As someone who works from home, I have the “mom” look down, but of course, I want to balance practicality with something fun and somewhat fashionable. Thankfully, there are plenty of fashion-forward ladies here in Austin who are willing to help a mama out. I reached out to Jennifer Young, Partner Stylist at Edit ByLauren Wardrobe Styling, and she was willing to give all of us some tips. Here’s what Jen has to say:

Given I just turned the big “4-0″ last year and am a mom of two elementary aged kids, I constantly ask myself how I can maintain my sense of cool. Cool not only in keeping my body temperature regulated {hello hormones}, but also fostering my fashion mojo. Yes, even as a stylist, I do regular self-checks so I don’t end up trying to dress like my daughter.

Enter the funky & famous ACL Music Festival in Austin, Texas, where every hipster on the planet congregates.

This is when I start hyperventilating a bit trying to figure out how to avoid a wardrobe malfunction in the Texas heat while trying to remain relevant amongst the festival vibes. After deep breathing in a bag, I remind myself that I don’t have to surrender to all the stereotypes in fashion that often accompany these types of events.  I can instead focus on integrating a few affordable must-haves and age-appropriate trends that will make me feel confident in my own style skin.

Here are my go-tos to consider when putting together your own festival look:

  1. } Gap Plaid Shirtdress {from upper left to right} ::  I adore this style of dress that mimics the fun flannels that are out for fall.  This cotton alternative breathes in the heat. Partner this ditty with either a pair of Chuck Taylor Converse or a grey calf bootie to complete the look. Add any combination of the accessories shown.

  3. } Topshop’s Floppy Hat :: Coachella attendees last May were seen wearing this popular felt hat. It is particularly fun with shorts, calf booties and a simple layering tank.
  4. } Micheal Kors Chain Faux Wrap Blouse :: I adore this cobalt color for fall coupled with a pair of breathable skinny jeans and a calf bootie. Add a jean jacket or cardigan if you think the weather might warrant extra layers.
  5. } Juicy Couture Glasses :: I wear these glasses everyday. They are a great basic that can be worn on any face frame since they are not too oversized.
  6. } Gap 1969 Dark Wash Skinny Jeans :: Every woman needs an affordable pair of light-weight, stretch skinny jeans in their wardrobe. The mid-rise inseam holds in all the right places and looks fabulous with a simple basic pocket-t and infinity scarf.
  7. } Elizabeth + James Leather Moto Shorts:: Anything accented with leather is all the rage this season. Even if you aren’t up for these shorts, opt for something that has a hint of leather in detail. Another look I love are the spanks leather leggings from the local Fab’rik boutique partnered with a pleione style tunic top from Nordstrom.
  8. } Kendra Scott Karina Feather Earrings :: These versatile, gold feather earrings scream “festival” without having to wear a dream catcher around your neck.
  9. } JCPenney’s Chuck Taylor Converse :: I am ALL about comfort, so if you have to park 5 miles from the venue–these shoes are made for walking. And they are the epitome of timeless cool.
  10. } Steve Madden Fringe Crossbody Bag :: Ladies, invest in some fringe. This purse is totally a winner for your closet this season and practical for carrying all your loot. If fringe isn’t your thing on a handbag, look for a this trendy detail on a pair of shoes.
  11. } Target’s Mossimo Lina Ankle Boot :: Target does it again with fashion forward calf bootie styles. This is a definitely something to prioritize on your shopping list. Partner with dresses, skinny jeans rolled up, or with a skirt and opaque black tights as we move deeper into winter.

Hope these tips send you confidently into the fall and winter season and well as inspire you with great ideas for ACL.

Jennifer Young’s love for fashion was born out of her passion for musical performance, where making a positive first impression is a must.  Friends and clients have identified Jennifer as a fashionista for years, admiring her “fuss-free” style that works for the stage, a casual date-night and everything in-between.  Her perfect style combination would be a blend of Jane Birkin, Louis Vuitton and Coco Chanel. You can keep in touch with Jen on Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest and Facebook.
