Happening All Week

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland – Monday through Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Exhibit is open until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.) The Ransom Center celebrates 150 years of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland with an exhibition for the curious and curiouser of all ages. Learn about Lewis Carroll and the real Alice who inspired his story. See one of the few surviving copies of the first edition of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Discover the rich array of personal and literary references that Carroll incorporated throughout Alice. Explore the surprising transformations of Alice and her story as they have traveled through time and across continents. Follow the White Rabbit’s path through the exhibition, have a tea party, or watch a 1933 paper filmstrip that has been carefully treated by Ransom Center conservators. The Center’s vast collections offer a new look at a story that has delighted generations and inspired artists from Salvador Dalí to Walt Disney. Read about Katey’s experience here. FREE! Explore Music (Round Rock)- 10:15 a.m. Designed to provide children with unique musical experiences, the 30-minute EXPLORE MUSIC class will incorporate group play and interaction, pre-K skills (sharing, following simple directions, attending-to-task, etc.) and dancing/movement to work on gross/fine motor skills.  While music is highly motivating, it can also have a calming and relaxing effect. Special Storytime with Master Storyteller Bernadette Nason (Bee Cave)- 10:30 a.m., Recommended for ages 3 and up. Multi-award-winning storyteller/actress/writer, Bernadette Nason, hails from England, lives in Austin, and has performed all over the world. She is acclaimed both for her spirited re-telling of multicultural folktales and for her personal stories about the contrasting lifestyles of the places she’s lived. She brings stories to life with facial expressions, character voices, and amazing energy, drawing from her cultural experiences to highlight universal truths learned on her travels. Nason is a Texas Commission on the Arts’ touring artist, and winner of the Austin Critics’ Table Award for “Conspicuous Versatility.” She was Houston’s “Biggest Liar” in 2010. Baby Day at The Alamo Drafthouse-  Movies before 2 p.m. The lights are up a bit, the sound is down a bit so moms and dads can head to the movies without the babies even knowing that they were at the movies. Infants are welcome to these shows, and of course, are allowed in for free. Take some time for yourself, pack up the kids, and head out to the Alamo Drafthouse for some much needed entertainment! Sprouts Preschool Program – 9:30 – 11:00 a.m., Bring your little ones to the Family Garden for our weekly Sprouts Preschool program that is geared towards ages 2-6. A Nature Play Guide will lead you through the Family Garden to explore all that it has to offer. Music with Mar Round Rock- 9:15-10:15 am. Music with Mar. is a class where a caregiver and child (ages birth through preschool) participate together in musical activities. These classes are focused on the four main areas of development – cognitive, social, motor and language. Classes are drop-in, so no advance sign-up needed. The class costs $10/family, payable directly to Angie, the class leader. A 5-class punch card is $35/family. Community Night at The Thinkery- 4-8 p.m.,  Enjoy special performances and activities presented by the City of Austin during Community Night on Wednesday, March 25 and April 1. Music on Main Street: La Mona Loca (Round Rock)- 6-8 p.m., The City of Round Rock brings you Music on Main Street, a FREE music series. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and the entire family. Caribbean Dance Voyage- 6:30-7:30 p.m., The Austin Caribbean Cultural Exchange invites all children ages 6-14 to immerse themselves in Caribbean cultures through dance. In this five-part series, children will learn Folkloric Dance and Kompa from Haiti, Soca and Chutney from Trinidad and Tobago, Dancehall from Jamaica, and Salsa Choke (choque) from Colombia. Dancers will have the option to showcase the moves they learn at the first annual Caribbean American Heritage Month Festival, which will take place on June 27th from 12-4pm at the African-American Cultural and Heritage Facility. KGSR’s Blues on the Green- 8-10 pm. RoboCode Kids- 3:30 pm. RoboCode Kids inspires innovation and cultivates creativity by exposing kindergarten through eighth grade students to robotics, computer programming, and 3D printing. RoboCode Kids takes a holistic approach to teaching students to build fully-functioning robots, guides students through objective-based computer programming, and brings student ideas to life by allowing them to design and 3D print functioning robot parts.Students can choose to attend one or all of the classes! Do512Family’s Kick off to Summer- 2-7 p.m., To celebrate the best season ever, Do512 Family decided to throw a party for families with live music, local food, magic, special performances and activities for the kids. That 80’s Concert- 8 p.m., The ACO will once again present its annual FREE Pops Concerts at the Sheffield Hillside Theater in Zilker Park. Join us as we celebrate Trapper Keepers, Jordache jeans, and neon in That ’80s Concert! In addition, our annual raffle drawing will award one lucky audience member (per night) a chance to conduct John Phillip Sousa’s Stars and Stripes Forever. Get ready for a summer evening filled with live performances from your favorite ’80s music memories, from Back to the Future to the E.T. Kickoff June Summer Fun Checklist for Kids Event (Round Rock)- Saturday, June 6, 10 a.m. to noon. Join us for the launch party to celebrate the kickoff of the Austin Summer Fun Checklist for Kids!  There will be crafts, prizes, giveaways, swag for kids including free sunglasses to the first 200 kids. Activities include Live Music on the Summer Stage from the Jellydots, Kupira Marimba and more; In My Own Backyard, theatre for the very young (0-4 years) presented by Trike Theatre Company and Pollyanna Theatre Company; Jeff Boyer’s Bubble Trouble inside Dell Hall; a Food Truck court, Arts & Crafts tent, local vendors, Coloring Corner, fun activities and crafts, The Thinkery, VIP Lounge for Season Ticket Holders, plus ticket giveaways & specials throughout the day! The Glitz of Broadway- Sunday, June 7, 2:30 p.m., Please join us with all of your family and friends to watch the youth performance team StarDancers give you an exciting show based off of many Broadway favorites! Free First Sundays at the Bullock Museum- Sunday, June 7, from Noon to 5:00 p.m., Enjoy FREE admission all day during Free First Sundays, held the first Sunday of every month. Families can explore the Story of Texas through three floors of exhibits that showcase artifacts from around the state. Special family programs from 12-3 p.m. combine art creation, presentations by partner organizations, and gallery activities.
