Bright Light Social Hour Review and Ticket Giveaway!

If you are into the live music scene here in Austin, you have surely heard of the local band The Bright Light Social Hour. Lately, their name has been everywhere. The foursome is made up of native central Texans: Curtis Roush, Jack O’Brien, A.J. Vincent and Joseph Mirasole.

In 2009, they played at the ACL festival. 2010 witnessed the debut of their self-titled album, and,  in 2011, they won an unprecedented number of awards- 6 in total including  Band of the Year, Album of the Year and Song of the Year-  at the 29th annual Austin Music Awards during SXSW. It has been a busy couple of years for the guys who are currently on a national tour. But, fear not, these locals will be playing next weekend right here in Austin!

I have not been to one of their shows, but from everything I have heard and read, they put on one hell of a fun live show. After getting my hands on the album “The Bright Light Social Hour”, I would definitely be there if I were not 8 months pregnant. Lucky for you, we are giving away a couple of tickets and a CD so that you can check it out for yourself. Enjoy it for me, too! (Read on to the end for the giveaway details).

The album is mostly a throw back to classic rock circa late 60’s to 70’s with some irresistible dance beats thrown in. This is an absolutely fun, danceable rock album- perfect for laid-back Texas beer drinking with friends. My favorite tracks include: “Bare Hands Bare Feet”, “Back and Forth”, and “Men of the Sea”.Advertisement
“Bare Hands Bare Feet” is just a fun song. I have no idea what it is about, but I swear I have been singing the chorus for a week straight. It is addictive! “Back and Forth” is almost impossible to fight; you want to get off your seat and dance. If it doesn’t get you moving, have your pulse checked. “Men of the Sea” is short and sweet; I think it is the oddball of the album because it sounds so different, but it is beautiful. “Detroit” is the love song of the album and won Song of the Year at Austin Music Awards in 2011. Really, this is definitely an album you can listen to the whole way through. You may even put it on repeat.

If you are already a fan or just like good rock, enter for a chance to see the guys live. We are giving away two tickets to the show at Mohawk this Saturday, June 11th and a copy of their album to jam out to at home.  Even if you don’t win, do yourself a favor, get a babysitter and go. You will not regret it.

So, what do you have to do to win? Fill out the form below by June 7, 2011 at midnight. Only one entry per household, please. A winner will be chosen randomly and contacted via email with 24 hours to respond.
