Event: Cracker Box Gospel Band at Central Market

Cracker Box GospelYes, it might still be a little warmer than we would like, but, little by little, it’s slowly cooling down here in the ATX. That means it’s actually quite pleasant outdoors in the evenings. I’m planning to ditch my dinner making responsibilities and head on down to Central Market to hear my friend Martha play with her band, Cracker Box Gospel Band, this Friday, October 17th, starting at 6:30pm.

Mark Leshner and Martha Merriell Chang getting their funk on in the studio.

Martha’s on vocals, David Evertson’s on bass, Mike Roeder’s on guitar and vocals, Brad Johnston’s on keys and Mark Leshner’s on drums and vocals. The band describes itself as “a soulful dance party, rooted in gospel R&B and the positive funk of the 70s.” Musical influences include Billy Preston, Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, Bettye LaVette, The Staple Singers and Curtis Mayfield.

Here’s a video of Martha and crew doing her thang:

Hope to see y’all there!
