Event: Playing With Food at The Contemporary Austin’s Jones Center, 8/20

Robert Therrien, No title (tambourines), 1999. Mixed media. 8 x 17 x 14 inches. Courtesy the artist and Gagosian Gallery. Photograph by Paul Cherwick.

Robert Therrien’s subtly humorous work evokes both the real and the imagined, as he coaxes humble motifs into surreal configurations through scale, abstraction, perspective, and color.

Inspired by Therrien’s art, local chefs create bites that play with food’s scale and its link to childhood memories. Explore a new take on the exhibition through culinary creativity, with good tastes provided by Blue Note Bakery, Dublin Bottling Works, ThunderCloud Subs, Paula’s Texas Spirits, and Austin Beerworks.

Co-presented by Edible Austin.

About Nicole Basham 793 Articles
A native Austinite and soccer-playing mom, Nicole uses her 10-year-old son as an excuse to rediscover her hometown through his eyes. In Thoreau's words, her mission is to "suck out all the marrow of life", or in her son's words, to cultivate in him a love of "advenchers".
