
It’s a tradition for many to ring in the new year by jumping into freezing cold water. While we may not have freezing lakes to jump into here in the Austin-area, we do have a few pools opening up to continue the tradition of the Polar Bear Splash. If you are a first-time participant or a pro, here’s a list of Polar Bear Splashes happening in the Austin-area on the first day of 2016.
Barton Spring’s Polar Bear Splash
Time: 9 a.m. – 2p.m. with splash times happening all day.
Location: Barton Springs Pool, 2201 Barton Springs Road, Austin
Save Our Springs will be set up with commemorative shirts for sale and free coffee, and donuts.
Polar Bear Splash
Time: 12-1:30 p.m.
Location: El Salido Pool, 11500 El Salido Pkwy., Austin
Cost: FREE
Kyle’s Polar Bear Splash
Time: Gates open at 1 p.m., line forms at 1:25 and splash happens at 1:30 p.m.
Location: Kyle Pool, Gregg-Clarke Park, 1100 W. Center Street, Kyle
Cost: FREE! For $15 you can become a club member and receive a t-shirt, be eligible for door prizes and have your name printed on a C;ub Plaque for the year.
PFlugerville PFreeze PFlop
Time: 10 a.m.
Location: Scott Mentzer Pool, 901 Old Austin Hutto Road, Pflugerville
Cost: FREE with donation of two canned food items to be given to local food banks.
