Mother’s Day Giveaway

I sit here in front of the computer trying in earnest to think of something inspiring to say about motherhood, but all I can think about is going to sleep. A week and one day into solo-parenting while my husband is away for a business trip has left me even more exhausted than I normally am which is typically pretty damn tired. And so instead of being creative with my words, I sit and daydream of various sleep scenarios in my head: a nap on the couch, an early-to-bed night, a quick cat nap in the hammock…. a girl can dream, right?

To win, I ask that you leave me with some words of inspiration to get me through the next several days until my husband FINALLY gets back home!

But what is the giveaway, you ask?

Well, mamas, it’s a very special one indeed. We will choose two winners for this giveaway!

Each winner will receive a ticket to the Listen to Your Mother show that is coming up on May 9, 2013 at 7:00pm and a $25 gift card to Eat Out In, a food delivery service that brings food from your favorite Austin-area restaurants right to your front door or to your office. It’s the perfect combination, you see, because you can order dinner for your family while you get all gussied up for a night out a show “takes the audience on a well-crafted journey that celebrates and validates mothering through giving voice to motherhood–in all of its complexity, diversity, and humor.”

AdvertisementWhat do you have to do to win? Leave a comment below with some words of inspiration for me and all of the other tired mamas out there. Tell us a joke, tell us it will get better. Tell us that we will one day sleep again, even if it’s a lie. Tell us what you love about being a mom.

All comments must be posted by 9:00am CST on Thursday, May 2, 2013. The winners will be notified via email with 24 hours to respond to claim the prizes. There is no cash value. 1. Thanks, Catherine! And yes, parenting does get easier. Or at least it will for me when I go to Laguna Niguel by myself this weekend.

  2. I hadn’t slept for six years. First my sone was born, then, two years later, my daughter. He was a terrible sleeper. She was worse. As she approached her fourth birthday, and we chatted in her bed after her 11:00 pm wakeup (one of four regular wakeups EVERY NIGHT), I asked her when she would start sleeping through the night. She told me, “When I am four.” She turned four one month ago and yes. She sleeps. Most every night (5 out of 7?), all night. It gets better. Maybe not as soon as you’d like it, but it gets better.

  3. You should never be without the following things: eye cream, sweat pants, a tank top that’s more comfortable than a bra, white wine in the fridge, saline nose spray, Benadryl and headphones.

  4. I love being a mom because I know one day when I am old, handsome, smart, sweet men will surround my bedside and hold my hand. (Mom to 3 boys)

  5. I am sitting here on the couch, and they are ENTERTAINING THEMSELVES, and have been all afternoon. I never thought this would happen. And it only took 7 years. :)

  6. Being a mom has been the most amazing journey, I have two beautiful daughters, 16 and 21. It does go by fast! And it is ALL worth the time, effort, going without sleep, the stains, the mess, the thinking that you are “missing out” on something that those young women with their careers and nice clothes have! Yes, lean on friends and family when you need to. Don’t feel guilty about anything! Do your best as a mom each day and the rewards will be endless :)

  7. My favorite thing to do at the end of a long day is dance and sing to Raffi’s Thanks A Lot video on youtube. We turn down the lights, grab a baby and say thanks to everyone and everything. This includes thanks to Elmo our chicken, thanks to Abuelita, thanks to Mom and Dad and baby brother and thanks to pinata parties…
After singing this song, somehow, I feel I have managed to slow time down long enough to say thanks!

  8. Words of inspiration would be to have a bottle of wine handy, order takeout, and call the cleaning service. Ain’t nothin’ wrong with asking for help.

  9. My husband is home and I need inspiration — haha! My inspiration is that you are not alone, we are not alone. Stay strong, momma!
