Rockabye Baby CD Review and Giveaway!

My sons like to listen to music at bedtime, so when Rockaby Baby! gave us the opportunity to select a CD from their lineup to review, I jumped at the chance. In the past, we’ve listened to Enya, the Corrs’ unplugged album and various compilations. Since the first night I popped in Rockabye Baby!’s lullaby renditions of Coldplay, my kids (and I!) have been hooked. In the words of my 5-year-old, “These songs are so beautiful, the first time I heard them, I almost cried.” That is what he said when I asked him what he thought about the album.

Rockabye Baby! has taken the songs of several excellent bands and slowed the tempo way down and replaced electric guitars and drums with mellotrons, vibraphones and bells. The result is a very soothing and relaxing musical experience.

You’ve got to check out their site; they have compilations from U2, Bon Jovi, Pearl Jam, Aerosmith, Kanye West, AC/DC, Bob Marley, Bjork and the Pixies, to name a few. And just in time for the holidays, they have a Christmas album! They’ve also got a poll up on the side of their page, where you can vote for the artist to be featured on their next album. You can sample several seconds of each song on every album that is featured on the site, so you know what you’re getting before it shows up in your mailbox. Another great feature on the Rockabye Baby! site is that you can purchase digital download gift certificates, which nets you a cool $3.00 discount off of the hard copy album price.

If you ever have grumpy kids/spouses/yourself in the car, would like to take a relaxing bubble bath, lull your kids to sleep, would like to do some yoga or otherwise calm yourself or your child, Rockabye Baby! lullabies are for you. They do an excellent job of taking music that we parents grew up with turning it into masterful, melodic lullabies.

I already have a list of other Rockabye Baby! albums I want to purchase. I think I’d like to get the Cure next, and then maybe the Ramones or Journey. It’s just so exciting, all of the possibilities!
