Central Market North LamarLive music, and dancing, oh my!  This is a great spot for parents to enjoy music while letting their kids burn some energy on the playground.  There are also ducks to feed in the nearby pond.  Here is the lineup of FREE entertainment:

  • Ephraim Ownes Friday, 6:30- 9:00pm- Owens has become more than a staple in the local music scene; he is the cornerstone of the intimate community of jazz artists. The Austin Chronicle has named him the Best Trumpet Player in Austin. He plays in a mellow, soulful yet aggressive tone while showcasing blues, gospel and funk in this outstanding jazz quartet.
  • Magical Marionettes Puppet Show Saturday, 12:00 – 2:00 PM- This variety show sponsored by Music Forever Music Together features marionette jugglers, singers, soldiers, acrobats, musicians, dancers, skeletons, grandparents and animals. Together they create a magical world of characters and stories that delight both kids and parents.
  • ¡Salsa Centrál 2012! 6th Annual Salsa Dance Contest- Saturday, 6:00 – 9:00 PM- Music by Cienfuegos & DJ Fabian. Contest is for amateurs only. No dance instructors or pros are allowed to compete. Registration: 6:00 – 7:00 pm Dance Contest: 7:00 – 7:45 pm The band will play before and after the contest. Sponsored by Dance International, Inc. Event Director, Eva C. Austin Urban Music Festival- Live music two days featuring Boyz II Men, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds and more! Bring the kids… it’s family-friendly! Are you ready for the best Fun Zone ever?! The theme for 2012 is family, fitness and fun! The scope has been expanded to include the entire family and we will focus on outdoor play, movement, fun exercises and healthy eating. Author Signing/ Storytime- The Ladybug and Me by Shallen Bowers is a short story full of fun for tiny tots. Go Fish!- Families can learn the basics of fishing through fun, hands-on activities. Take away a fishing fun pack and enter the drawing for  prizes. Equipment and bait provided or bring your own. Zilker Garden Festival- For over 50 years, the annual Zilker Garden Festival has been a one-stop, garden shopping destination when spring arrives in Austin and Central Texas. A family-friendly event, the garden festival offers something for everyone: live music, gardening talks, food, a flower show and a kid’s corner with crafts, face painting and more! Garden Festival Parking: parking will be in the polo fields in Zilker Park, across from the Barton Springs Rd. entrance to Zilker Botanical Garden.  Parking under Mopac is strictly prohibited.  The Stratford Dr. parking lot behind the garden is for festival vendors and volunteers only. The Flying Theatre Machine: Story Sports- Kids vote on their favorite teams; The Pirates, The Wizards, The Aliens, and The Bakers.  These athletes and sometimes the audience will partake in events such as creating out-of-order stories, monster-catching or running an obstacle race and more! Watch these teams bring the laughs as they achieve victorious points in each event. Improv Olympic sports have never been more entertaining, especially when the audience chooses the winners. Sunday Storyime- Enjoy an all-ages, FREE storytime on Sunday at 1:00pm at Faulk Central Library, 800 Guadalupe Street.

Family Clean Water Festival- Enjoy a fun, FREE family event featuring hands-on activities that teach about the Colorado River and the lakes of Austin, educational door prizes, ‘green’ vendors, and live music provided by local musicians. Sunday, 10:00am- 3:00pm. Wilkerson Center for Colorado River Education at Redbud Center, 3601 Lake Austin Blvd.

Egg-Stravaganza- Bring your basket to hunt for thousands of pieces of candy, prizes and goodies! Take your photo with the bunny until 2:45pm (bring your own camera). The hunt is for kids 12 and under.  FREE!! Sunday, 2:00pm. Elizabeth Milburn Park, 1901 Sun Chase Blvd., Cedar Park.

April Pool’s Day- Participants of all ages will have the opportunity to learn “hands-on” water safety tips, as well as participating in a variety of activities including 10-minute CPR training with Austin Travis County EMS, life jacket fittings and instruction by LCRA, a mock drowning “rescue”, Water Safety Bingo & Jeopardy games with Colin’s Hope, culminating with a swim race @ 3:30 featuring competitors wearing life jackets in an attempt to set the world record of swimming with a life jacket on.
